Jessica marked a cross over the final day in August on her calendar. She leant back and smiled faintly, absently playing with the engagement ring on her finger.
It seemed like a long time coming.
She was finally back in Tulsa with her family, trying to repair the relationships she'd so carelessly ruined when she was a selfish teenager. She knew she had a long way to go yet, it was a big ask, for them to forget the things she'd said and done back then, the way she'd behaved.
She shuddered, thinking about it. If she had been a character in a story, she would've hated the author for the way she had been forced to act.
But things were improving. Everyone she had asked had agreed to be in her wedding, and all the important people were coming. That was... so much more than she could ever have hoped for.
And it was now just right around the corner. She still remembered the day Joe had proposed, it had been unexpected, but not at the same time. Once they had started dating, it became clear that this was where their relationship had been heading.
You didn't let go of men like Joe Wright.
And Jessica didn't ever intend to.
