Christian had missed Avery the day before, so he made sure he was home when she was due to get back today. Friday was her early day, so any moment now...
He'd actually made headway in finding a job, and there were a few places who actually wanted an interview (after having to list a heap of fake credentials, but hey, the work was real). His main problem now, was the compulsory background checks they did on anyone heading into a security environment.
He lazily turned on the TV and watched Judge Judy until Avery got back.
Avery
Avery yawned as she walked through the front door, closing it with her hip as she juggled her art supplies, lunch and coffee. She headed straight for the kitchen, hearing the sound of the TV as she walked in.
"Hey," she called as she went past.
Christian
"Hey," Christian looked up, before changing the channel to the news.
"Hey Avie... I have a favour to ask," he said as he got up from the couch.
Avery
Avery looked up from tipping her salad into the bowl. "Yeah, what's up?"
She washed her hands at the sink and dried them off, opening a drawer to get a fork out.
Christian
"I have a job interview tomorrow night," Chris felt a little silly saying that, "but they want a full background check on me. And of course... no records."
Avery
"Ah, ok," Avery said, forking a carrot into her mouth. She chewed thoughtfully and then swallowed.
"So, you need my brain. No probs, I can fix that up for you."
Christian
"Really?" Chris looked surprised, as technically it was illegal.
"Great. Well I have to be in town by 6pm. That okay?"
Avery
"It's for the greater good," Avery shrugged. "You need work to get money to pay rent."
She nodded.
"Yeah that's fine, I'm heading back in tonight anyway, I can detour past with you."
Christian
"It's tomorrow," Chris said.
"You're definitely free tomorrow? If we get it sorted I can start next week, so the guy said."
Avery
"Yeah sure," Avery nodded. "Not a problem."
She ate a bit more of her lunch.
Christian
"Great! Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it," Chris said genuinely.
Then settled back on the couch, wondering just how great it could actually be. Working for a living? What the?
