"I thought this would feel different," Avery said, looking over at Matt.
They were sitting together in the garden level of the Space Station, hands entwined as they spoke.
"More dramatic?" Matt asked, leaning over and kissing her cheek.
"Something like that," she shrugged. "I don't know. I guess it proves we're right to do this."
"I do love you," he said quietly. "But..."
"Don't." She shook her head. "I know. I love you too. We're just leading different lives right now."
"I know."
They fell into silence again.
"When are you leaving?" she asked.
"After Christmas," he told her. "I know it sounds stupid..."
"Not at all," she reassured him. "It actually makes a lot of sense to me, why wouldn't you want to go help out?"
Matt gave her a sideways hug. "We're still best friends, right?"
"Always."
