Team Line Ups

Written by Michelle

Rogue

Rogue sat down in Professor Xavier's office next to Scott.

"So," asked the Professor. "How are the teams coming?"

"I'm pretty much satisified with my team line up," said Scott, holding out a sheet of paper. "Myself, of course, Jean, Kitty, Piotr, Rahne and Bobby."

"And Rogue?" inquired the Professor glancing over at her.

"The only role Ah haven't fulfilled yet is a scout," Rogue replied. "Otherwise, Ah'd like Whip, Mark, Doug and Psiguard."

"You have to be kidding me," Scott said, gaping at her. "A whole team of greens? This is the Shadow Team we're talking about here, Rogue -"

"No duh," Rogue retorted. "Ah didn't just pick names out of a hat ya know. Whip and Mark work great together and they both did very well in muh espionage class. Doug's technopathy makes him ideal for acquiring data amongst other things. Obviously we need a telepath and ya can hardly call Psiguard 'green', Scott. His telekinesis is an added bonus."

"Rogue be serious -" Scott tried again.

"Ah am!" Rogue insisted. "In fact, Professor, Ah have recently acquired some... intel. There's a bar downtown called 'Barneys'. It's mutant friendly and a member of the Friends of Humanity has been scouting it out in preparation for an attack. He's there ta learn when the bar has its highest mutant population. Unfortunately, he'd also low in rank so, Ah have a contact, but not the location of their headquarters."

"We'll go after the contact then and -" Scott began.

"You'll do no such thing," Rogue said tersely. "The combat teams can be on standby for the attack on Barney's. Muh team will check on the contact and see what we can learn from him."

"Rogue -"

"Ya cannot be questioning every decision Ah make, Scott," Rogue informed him. "You have ya own team ta worry about."

"Rogue is quite right, Scott," the Professor put in.

"I just don't like the idea of having to rely on a team that's, well, no offence Rogue, but everyone's inexperienced except you, and you're relying on Ms Marvel's," Scott said.

"Ah will of course, be co-ordinating with the more experienced mutant advisers, but we all have ta start somewhere, Scott," Rogue pointed out. "This has practically been dumped on our laps. Ah plan on taking advantage of it. Also, Ah intend on keeping an eye on Barney's muhself. 'Marie' has an in with the boys playin' poker. Ah intend ta milk that for all it's worth."

"Good then," said the Professor. "Now, Scott, I would like for you to meet with your team, let them know what's happening and make sure they don't mind becoming minor celebrities."

Rogue didn't even bother to hide her snicker. Scott glared at her from behind his sunglasses.

"Right," Scott said. "Did you have anyone in mind for Team B?"

"Lance, actually," the Professor replied.

"Lance?" Scott repeated.

"Ya aren't going ta start questioning the Professor too, now are ya, Scott?" Rogue drawled. "Regardless of how ya feel about him, Lance has good leadership qualities as well as skills as an X-man. Frankly, if it weren't for the fact that he's so unsuited to espionage, Ah would have had him on muh team."

Scott winced and Rogue grinned at him.

"I presume then," the Professor said, "that you don't consider Lance to be an appropriate substitute should any of your proposed team declines the offer?"

"Not at all," Scott confirmed.

"Then I'll talk to him about taking on Team B," the Professor said with a nod. "Rogue, you get your proposed team together as well. Let them know what's going on. I'll make the official annoucement after we've got Team A sorted."

Scott and Rogue agreed. The meetign continued a little longer, and then finally Rogue and Scott got up to leave.

"Rogue, stay a moment, would you?" said the Professor.

"Sure," she replied.

The Professor waited for Scott to leave before speaking: "Is everything all right, Rogue?"

Rogue pursed her lips, swallowed and looked away.

"Things are... Ah think... Remy and Ah had a fight and Ah'm not sure how ta deal with it," Rogue said finally. "It won't interfere with work but..."

"I'm not worried about that," the Professor replied. "Far beit for me interfere, but things haven't been right between you and Remy for months now -"

"It's all this crap with muh powers," Rogue said. "He... he think Ah'm killing him and sometimes he thinks he's talkin' ta one of muh psyches instead of me. Ah didn't think muh psyches had that kind of leeway. Ah was plannin' on talkin' ta Jean about that."

"Very well."
