I Will Follow You Into The Dark

Written by Nessa

Faith

Faith nudged Sam's hands, urging him to close his book as soon as they were alone.

She climbed up on the bed beside him and touched his arm gently, running her fingers over the vein that stuck out.

"Hey, so... we need to talk."

Sam

Sam looked over at the door Dean had just left through, then marked his page and closed the book.

"That sounds vaguely ominous," he smirked nervously, putting it aside.

Faith

Faith bit her lip.

"Well... it's all a matter of how you look at it."

Sam

"Uh oh," Sam mused, sitting up straight and resting his arms on his bent knees.

Faith

"I didn't want to worry you, because I didn't know if anything was going to come up for sure."

Faith tucked her hair behind her ears.

"I um... I had an appointment with a neurosurgeon the other day."

Sam

Sam raised an eyebrow.

"You're kidding, right?"

Faith

Faith shook her head.

"I just... I had a feeling something wasn't right."

Sam

"Oh... ok," Sam shrugged, looking down at the bed.

"So... crisis averted?"

Faith

"Um..."

Faith looked away for a second.

"I have... I have stage four melenoma."

Sam

Sam stared at her in disbelief.

"You don't," he softly shook his head.

Faith

Faith bit her lip.

"Yeah... I do."

She rubbed her head slightly.

"It's spread to my liver and uh... and to my brain."

Sam

"No, you don't," Sam shifted forward and took her hand in his, staring her in the eye.

"Because even if you do, we're going to take care of this."

Faith

"Dr Shepherd is going to start treatment as soon as I go back. He just wanted to make sure I had support this time."

Faith looked down at the bed again.

"They're going to be as aggressive as possible."

Sam

"And if anyone can handle that, it's you," Sam assured.

Faith

Faith was quiet for a moment.

"Can you tell Dean? I don't know if I can... what if I don't make it out of this?"

Sam

Sam sighed.

"Ho many times have you been knocking at death's door and he's turned you away already?"

He kissed the back of her hand.

"It'll happen again, trust me."

Faith

Faith nodded.

"I don't know if I can tell Angel. At least not until I know everything is fine?"

Sam

"Let's just see how the next couple of weeks pan out," Sam insisted.

"Then we'll worry about telling people."

Faith

Faith nodded.

"I'm going to have to stay in Seattle for a few days."

Sam

"We'll come with you," Sam assured.

"I think Bobby needed to see Dean for something but that shouldn't take long. And I'm sure he can handle it on his own."

Faith

Faith nodded.

"I think..."

She stopped herself, and shook her head.

Sam

"What?" Sam tilted his head.

Faith

Faith took a deep breath.

"I don't know," she said. "I just... I have this weird feeling."

Sam

"Yeah, you explained that," Sam looked confused.

"Or... do you mean something else?"

Faith

Faith shook her head.

"No, nothing, it's fine. I'm just nervous, I suppose."

Sam

"Seriously," Sam squeezed her hand a little.

"You've beaten far greater demons than this. This will be a piece of cake in comparison."

He smiled confidently.

Faith

Faith nodded slowly.

"I guess so."

She paused.

"You're really not worried?"

Sam

"Of course not," Sam insisted.

"Because I know from experience that one way or another we always beat death. And you have a ton of people fighting on your side already."

Faith

"But if I..." Faith paused for a second.

"If I come back and I don't know who I am, or who you are...I don't want to live like that, Sam."

Sam

"And you won't," Sam assured.

"We'll find a way to make it all better. We always do."

Faith

Faith nodded and then looked up at Sam with pathetic eyes.

"Hug time."

Sam

Sam smiled, then leant foward to kiss her cheek as he pulled her in for a hug.
