Bold Black Ink

Natalie

Natalie opened up the envelope with a feeling of "not another one" and pulled out the page. She glanced at it and confirmed in a glance that it was another one of those stupid letters about how Taylor was hers and she'd better watch out. It was, however, at that moment that Penny started crying, so Natalie got up from the mail sorting and headed off to soothe her one-year-old daughter. The letter remained face up on the kitchen bench.

Taylor

Taylor walked through the door and put his briefcase aside as he took off his jacket and hat.

"Natalie! I'm home!" he announced, after quickly checking his watch to make sure it wasn't a time the kids would usually be asleep.

He walked through to the kitchen area and paused as he saw the mail pile.

Natalie

"Hi Tay," Natalie called as she caught a wiff of Penny's nappy. "Faugh."

She wrinkled her nose and started changing her.

Taylor

Taylor lay his scarf on the bench and picked up the letter. Rolling his eyes he put it aside and picked up the two bills underneath it as he began walking to the nursery.

"I see you got more fanmail," he said as he leant against the doorway, reading the bills.

Natalie

Natalie snorted.

"Ha, yeah, someone's really getting into it. It's like, the fourth or fifth one in the last month. Lame."

Taylor

"If there's a heap of similar ones, maybe we should look into them," Taylor suggested.

"They're becoming more scarce, after all. Did you see this telephone bill? Maybe I should stop conference calling..."

Natalie

Natalie chuckled.

"Yes, yes I did see it," she said. "Although, I don't think you're the only guilty one conference calling."

She grinned.

"Well, I've been throwing them all out, but I think the last few have been from the same person," she shrugged.

Taylor

"Ok," Taylor nodded, tucking the paperwork under his arm.

"Hold onto this one, and we'll see what comes next."

He smiled when he saw Penny.

"How's my little girl doing?"

Natalie

"All nice and clean."

Natalie lifted a newly changed Penny in the air and turned her to face her father. Penny giggled and reached out for him.

Taylor

Taylor clicked his tongue and stepped forward to take her.

"Just how I like her! Going to pick up Ezra soon?"

Natalie

"Why, what's the time?" Natalie asked.

She then glanced at the clock in the nursery, thereby answering her own question.

"Oh wow, it's later than I thought. Then yes, yes I will."

Taylor

"Oh don't worry. Here," Taylor handed Penny back.

"I need to talk something over with Dad anyway, so I'll go get him. Did you want me to pick up something for dinner on the way back?"

Natalie

"Oh okay, cool thanks," Natalie replied, taking Penny back into her arms. "Dinner sounds good. I dunno... pizza? Chinese?"

Taylor

"I'll surprise you," Taylor winked, leaning forward to kiss her cheek.

"Oh and, before I forget," he paused with his hand on her shoulder, "Bun and Adam are coming over tomorrow. Don't worry, I told them not to expect food."

Natalie

Natalie chuckled.

"Okay then," she said. "I shant go out of my way then. Ha."

She kissed him back.

Taylor

"Back soon," Taylor grinned, before leaving promptly.

Natalie

"Okay," Natalie said.

She jiggled Penny in her arms.

"So, I suppose you want to stay up now, huh?"

Penny burbled merrily and Natalie smiled.
