Asking Dad

Written by Nessa and AiMsTeR

Priestly

Priestly sat on the edge of his bed, fidgeting absently with the corner of the pillow. He wished he'd gone out patrolling with Faith, instead of opting to stay in with Sam. Things were still slightly awkward between the two of them, though, he had to admit, he didn't dislike Sam as much as he did before.

He took a deep breath before clearing his throat. "Sam?"

Sam & Dean

Sam was reading through some old scripture and was barely paying attention.

"Yeah?" he asked absently.

Dean looked up from his magazine.

Priestly

"Can I ask you something? About Mom..."

Priestly looked awkward.

Dean & Sam

Dean looked over at Sam, who looked back at him.

"Should I...?" Dean indicated the door.

Priestly

Priestly shrugged.

"It's just about... her past."

Sam & Dean

Sam shrugged and Dean sat back.

"Sure, ask away," Sam offered, closing the web page and turning his chair.

Priestly

"Well," Priestly fidgeted for a moment. "How... I know what she did back then... Ty sorta filled me in, but... how did she change? Or... why, I guess."

Sam & Dean

"You mean..."

"Why did she turn good after being evil for so long?" Dean finished for him.

Priestly

"Yeah," Priestly said softly.

"I just... don't get it, really."

Sam

"She had help," Sam explained.

"She met a vampire... with a soul."

"In other words, one who actually feels remorse and doesn't just chow down on longpig for fun," Dean added.

"And he helped change her perspective," Sam explained.

Priestly

"Oh... Angel?" Priestly squinted.

"I've heard her talking to him..."

Dean & Sam

"That's the one," Dean clicked his tongue.

"He was there for her a lot. And still is," Sam reasoned.

"Well he does have age on his side," Dean smirked.

Priestly

"Do you think... he would talk to me?"

Priestly looked at his feet.

Sam & Dean

The brothers shared another glance.

"I'm sure he would," Sam assured.

"I know for sure he'd want to meet you."

"Just don't believe anything he says about me," Dean insisted.

Priestly

Priestly smirked faintly.

"Why? Don't you guys get along?"

Dean & Sam

"He's a-"

"He's not Dean's biggest fan," Sam relented.

Priestly

"Let me guess," Priestly smirked.

"He likes you, Sam?"

Dean & Sam

"Bingo," Dean smirked.

"But it did take a while. Long after Faith and I got together," Sam assured, "we still have some trust issues, but we're working on it. For Faith."

Priestly

Priestly nodded slowly.

"Do you think he'd understand my whole... deal? He seems to get Mom, right?"

Sam & Dean

"Angel didn't always have a soul. He was evil for a very, very long time," Sam explained.

"He's been there. He nows what all of us are going through."

Dean contemplated that for a moment, in light of his recent revelations of his time in Hell.

Priestly

"But you don't trust him?" Priestly asked.

"Is there any reason why I shouldn't trust him?"

Sam

"No I do. I do trust him. In relation to Faith, and us," Sam reasoned.

"I just know that his soul isn't as intact as some might think."

"And we've handled too many vampires of our own to really understand one deciding to turn their back on the 'dark side'," Dean shrugged.

"But I don't see any reason why you couldn't. Faith is his family, so you are too," Sam assured.

Priestly

Priestly nodded.

"Do you think it might help me?"

Sam

Sam's eyes fell for a moment before he looked up again.

"I think... that if you need to talk to someone, if you have some internal stuff going on, thathe's probably the best person to talk to," he nodded sincerely.

Priestly

"And you won't mind?" Priestly asked.

He paused, a little surprised that it even mattered to him.

Sam

Sam shook his head.

"I'd prefer it, actually," he admitted.

Priestly

Priestly nodded.

"Oh..."

Sam

"Let's be honest," Sam amended.

"You're not going to talk to any of us. You were brought up to think of us as demons almost. Maybe a fresh perspective is what you need."

Priestly

Priestly nodded again.

"I guess so."
