It Has Been Decided

Alice and Carlisle

Alice knocked lightly on her father's study, smiling faintly when he asked her to come in.

"Alice," Carlisly nodded, leaning back in his armchair. "You look troubled."

"I am," she replied, taking the seat in front of his desk. "Greatly so."

"I know you are worried about Edward's feelings for Faith," he said.

"It's not just that, Carlisle," Alice told him, shaking her head. "But... I just had a vision. One that is set in stone. I have seen no other alternative."

Carlisle tilted his head slightly. "Go on."

"Faith is going to die," she revealed. "By the hand of one of our kind. And Edward will not be able to stop it."

"Do you know when?" he pressed.

"No," she replied. "But I am certain it won't be long. Our numbers grow each day, Carlisle."

"I am aware," he nodded. "Tell me everything."

Alice took a deep - though unneeded - breath. "She's determined to find who killed her daughter. He is unclear to me, but he has made the decision to kill her. And he is going to ask one of our kind to do it for him."

"And he will?"

Alice nodded again. "It will be slow, drawn out. And she will fight well, but she will fall."

"You are sure?"

"Yes," she said. "All of our efforts and protection - which we step up - will not be enough to save her."

Carlisle was silent for a long while, thinking this news over. "And Edward?"

"He will be too late," she told him.
