As they slowly pulled away from each other, Gambit took one look at Rogue's face as her eyes open and swore. With that one word, he practically catapulted to his side of the bed, where he sat on the edge and looked very steadily at the floor. Rogue sat up, a confused, and rather hurt expression on her face at her husbands' unusual behaviour.
"Remy?" she asked softly.
Gambit lifted his hand and pointed to the wall-length mirror in their bedroom. Rogue turned her head to look. It took her but a moment to see what was wrong.
Her eyes were red on black. Just like Gambits'.
She drew in her breath sharply, got out of bed and walked towards the mirror to take a closer look.
"I love yo' Rogue... I do but... but I can't... I can't look at yo' - not when yo' have my eyes."
Rogue put her hands to her cheeks, studying the somewhat unnverving sensation of seeing Gambit's eyes in her own head.
"Ah'm sorry," she said softly. "Ah'm so sorry."
Gambit said nothing, and Rogue watched has her eyes slowly transitioned back to normal.
"It's gone now."
There was a long silence.
"Good," Gambit said finally.
He stood then, and Rogue watched in the mirror as he dressed. Without looking at her, he left the bedroom. Not until the door clicked behind him did Rogue let the tears fall.
