Last Goodbye

Written by Nessa and AiMsTeR

Spike and Angel

"Peaches?" Spike stuck his head into Angel's office. "How is she?"

Angel looked away from the window. "I'm not sure. Someone should go get her though. Sam too."

Spike nodded. "I'll get Kiwi to get Pip, and I'll get Faith."

Dean & Sam

Dean knocked on the door, seeing Sam's back to him but able to tell he was straightening his tie.

"Where's Faith?" he looked around.

"She left a while ago. Maybe on the rooftop," Sam shrugged, having a bit of trouble.

"Here," Dean stepped forward to help him.

He fixed his tie as Sam stared off into space.

"You know you didn't have to suit up," Dean indicated it.

He as only wearing a patterned dress shirt.

"I know," Sam nodded, "but I wanted to."

"There," Dean stood back once he'd finished, "come on, let's go."

Spike and Faith

"Pet?" Spike asked, taking a step towards Faith.

Faith didn't answer, she just stood dead still, looking down at the ground below.

"Come on, luv, it's time," he tried again.

"I'm not going," Faith replied softly.

"Luv, come on," he repeated.

"I can't do it, Spike," she said. "I'm not going."

Dean & Sam

The brothers met with Angel outside his office.

"Where's Faith?" Dean asked him.

Angel and Spike

"Spike's getting her," Angel said, rubbing his already red eyes.

"She was on the roof."

Spike appeared seconds later.

"Peaches? You might have to get her."

Sam & Dean

"What?" Sam's face was blank.

"Sit tight," Dean headed for the stairs.

He appeared behind Faith a minute later.

"Why are you still here?" he began abruptly.

Faith

"Leave it, Dean," Faith said quietly.

"I'm not going. I can't do it."

Dean

"Too bad," Dean shrugged.

"I'm not leaving until you come with us. I will say on this rooftop all night purely just to annoy you. Maybe even all day tomorrow too."

Faith

"Fine," Faith replied.

"Then we'll stay here."

Dean

"Fine," Dean walked closer to take a look out at the view.

"I'll help you be a selfish bitch and regret it the rest of your life."

Faith

"Go away," Faith said quietly.

"Just go. This has nothing to do with you."

Dean

"Actually, it does," Dean corrected.

"Because it affects you, and it affects Sam. Which affects me. Don't be so shallow as to think you're the only one hurt here. We might not have known Tru nearly as long as you guys did, but we sure as hell accepted her as part of the family. And family? Doesn't end with blood."

He stood back a little.

"You know something? I know for a fact that if Sam could swap this son of yours for Tru's life, he would. Think about that. And I know something else. If you don't go today, you're going to regret the last chance you had to say goodbye for the rest of your miserable life."

He turned and made his way back down to the lobby.

Faith and Angel

Faith remained motionless, until Angel appeared minutes later.

"Faith?" he tried.

Sam & Dean

"What did you say to her?" Sam frowned as Dean came into view.

"Just that she'd regret it," Dean shrugged, picking up his suit jacket and putting it on.

Angel and Faith

Angel put his hand on Faith's shoulder, and she turned slightly.

"I can't," she said. "I can't bury another daughter."

Angel wrapped his arms around her tightly, and held her close. He kissed the top of her head.

"We'll do it together," he whispered. "I'm right here."

Sam & Dean

"Maybe I should-"

"Leave it," Dean put out a hand to stop Sam going very far.

Angel and Faith

After some more gentle coaxing, Angel led Faith down into the lobby, their hands firmly entwined together.

Faith kept her eyes on the ground, focusing on taking one step at a time.

"Let's go," Angel said quietly to the group.

Dean & Sam

The boys nodded and Dean led the way out to the cars. Sam stayed behind to follow Faith and Angel.

Spike, Gunn, Lorne, Angel and Faith

Spike followed behind Dean, while Gunn and Lorne climbed into the front car where they had been waiting.

Angel glanced across at Sam, and slowed slightly, so he could walk alongside them.

Sam & Dean

Sam stopped awkwardly before sidling up beside Faith.

Dean turned to see Spike behind him before getting into the second car.

Faith and Angel

Faith absently reached for Sam's hand as they came to the cars.

Angel waited for them to get in.

Sam

Sam took it carefully, hoping she couldn't feel it shaking slightly as he struggled to keep control, and waited until she got in the car before him before getting in himself.

Faith

Faith stared out the window as they drove towards the cemetary, and she leaned against Sam, as if she needed help sitting up.

Sam & Dean

Sam was staring straight ahead, emotionless, as he kept his arm around her.

When they got to the cemetery, he spotted a group of people around the gravesite already. Probably her father's family and friends he hadn't met.

Dean saw the same crowd as their car came to a halt.

"Let's do this," he said to Spike, before getting out.

Avery and Faith

As Faith got out of the car, Avery came over to hug her.

"Hey," she said quietly.

Faith nodded and hugged the younger Hanson.

Spike, Angel and Faith

Spike nodded, and followed Dean out of the car. He went over to stand with Lorne and Gunn, while Angel helped Faith out.

"Come on," he murmured quietly.

Faith followed along as if on auto pilot.

Zac and Saku

Zac looked down at the gravesite, his hands shoved his in pockets and a bleak expression on his face. He didn't even notice their arrival until Saku gave him a nudge and pointed towards Faith with his head. Zac swallowed a little, then gave a slight nod of acknowledgement and slowly mad his way over. Saku pondered joining them, but decided they didn't need him.

Faith

Faith looked up as Zac made his way over. She reached out slightly, then stopped midway, unsure of what she was going to do.

Sam & Dean

Sam patted her on the back a little and stood aside so the parents could have their time.

Dean made his way up to the gravesite, slipping his dark sunglasses onto his face as he walked.

Zac

Zac stopped before Faith and held out his hand to her.

"Faith -" he began.

His voice choked up then, and he was silent, not trusting himself to say another word.

Faith

Faith took Zac's hand, and squeezed it gently.

"Hey," she said softly.

Dean & Sam

Dean kept one eye on the group, and one eye on the crowd in case he recognised the prodigal son.

Sam let his gaze fall to the ground, and led the way over to the graveside.

Zac

Zac closed his eyes briefly.

"So umm... this isn't exactly what I envisioned for the next time we'd see each other. Figured we'd be celebrating Tru's," Zac swallowed, "graduation, not... not her funeral. Hell, Faith I... I... are you okay?"

Faith

Faith nodded.

"Are you?"

Zac

"No," Zac replied, shaking his head. "No, I really don' think I am."

He looked down at the ground.

Sam & Dean

Sam looked back, waiting for Faith to join him.

"See anything suspicious?" Dean asked Spike, acting more like he were on mission than at a funeral.

Faith and Spike

Faith nodded at Zac, then moved away, to rejoin Sam. She gestured for him to come with.

Spike looked over at Dean.

"Think we're ok."

Zac and Saku

Zac shoved his hands back into his pockets and wandered back to Saku and the rest of his family. Saku gave his father a searching gaze as he returned, but Zac wouldn't meet his eyes.

Dean & Sam

"I wouldn't let my guard down just yet," Dean insisted, slipping a hand into his pocket.

Sam slid his hand into Faith's as she got close enough.

Spike and Faith

"We're good," Spike said again. "Angel has it covered."

Faith let Sam take her hand, and she moved closer to him.

Dean & Sam

Everyone was silent as the service got underway. Dean was unable to shake his gut feeling and kept his eye on the crowd the entire time, while Sam steadily held Faith's hand and stood at the ready of she needed consoling.

Faith and Avery

Faith was absolutely still, her face impassive as the service went on.

When it came time for people to say their final goodbyes, Avery looked at Saku and then walked up to put flowers on top of the coffin.

Zac and Saku

Saku gave Avery a slight smile, more of acknowledgement than of actual happiness, and followed her to place his own flowers on the coffin.

Zac watched on.

Dean & Sam

Dean groaned inwardly, resisting the urge to walk away.

Sam waited until there seemed to be a gap in the line, before looking at Faith and dropping her hand. He stepped forward to place a couple of flowers on the coffin, pausing for a moment to remember her, before whispering a short prayer in Latin and moving on.

Spike, Gunn, Lorne, Angel, Faith and Liam

Spike, Gunn and Lorne walked up one after the other, all pausing for a few moments, then moving on, once they'd placed their flowers atop the coffin.

Angel sighed, and followed suit after a few more people had gone.

Faith and Liam held hands, watching everyone say their final goodbyes to Tru.

Zac and Saku

Saku moved away with the others, pausing by Zac, but continuing on when Zac didn't look at him. Zac spent a few minutes looking down at the grave, then slowly turned around and slowly walked away.

Sam & Dean

Sam looked up for where Faith and Liam stood over the other side of the grave, debating whether or not to join her again, but instead made his way over to Dean.

"You ok?" Dean asked him.

"I will be," Sam nodded.

Liam and Faith

Liam put his arm around Faith's shoulders and she leaned against him. The two of them stood like that for a long moment, before Liam finally released his handful of petals.

Faith glanced at him, and after a few more minutes of silence, she did the same.

Zac and Saku

"Worst day ever," Zac murmured.

"I hear you," Saku replied softly with a glance over at Faith and Liam. "I'd say there's plenty who would agree with you."

Sam & Dean

"I'm one of them," Sam appeared behind them, stepping around to face Zac.

"I'm sorry, we've only met once or twice," he apologised straight away, "but I'm sorry for your loss."

Dean kept his eye on Faith while Sam was occupied.

Liam and Faith

"Come on," Liam said quietly.

He led Faith away gently, both of them leaning against each other for support.

Zac and Saku

Saku jumped a little, Sam having startled him.

"Hey, Sam right?" Zac asked.

Sam

"Yeah, Sam Winchester," Sam nodded, keeping hs eyes downward.

Zac

Zac nodded.

"Yeah, well, thanks," he said, referring to his expression of sympathy.

Sam & Dean

Sam nodded, deciding against trying to shake his hand, and moved away.

He looked around for Faith and began in her direction.

Dean glancd at Spike then slowly headed in the same direction.

Spike and Faith

"You tailing your brother?" Spike asked quietly.

Faith glanced up as Sam approached.

Zac and Saku

"Gonna talk to Faith again?" Saku asked quietly.

Zac shrugged.

"What more is there to say?"

Saku conceeded the point with a shrug of his own.

Dean & Sam

"My focus is him and Faith. They're going? I'm going," Dean pointed out.

He scratched at his stubble as he sidled.

Sam offered a small smile as he and Faith made eye contact.

Faith

Faith nodded at Sam, her face remaining blank.

"Is it time to go?" she asked quietly.

Sam

"Unless you want to stay longer?" Sam offered.

Faith

Faith shook her head slowly.

"No, I think I want to go."

Sam & Dean

Sam looked up for Dean, surprised to see him so close behind.

"Time to go," he nodded.

"Ok," Dean assured, "I'll tell Angel and get a car ready."

He turned to do just that.

Faith

Faith slipped her arm around Sam's waist.

"We should get food."

Sam

"Yeah I guess so," Sam put his arm around her shoulders.
