Dean found an empty office in Wolfram & Hart where he wouldn't be disturbed, and sat down at the desk. He took a deep breath with his eyes closed, let it out steadily, and looked at the sheet of paper Angel had given them.
Groaning to himself, he picked up the phone, dialled for an outside line and entered the phone number he'd been given.
Zac
Zac jumped as the phone rang. He took a moment to gather himself and picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
Dean
Dean cleared his throat.
"Ah... hi. I'm looking for a Zac Hanson?"
Zac
"That would be me," Zac replied. "And you are?"
He wondered what this was about.
Dean
"Ah... you don't know me. My name's Dean Winchester. I'm calling on behalf of Faith Lehane."
Zac
"Oh..." Zac frowned slightly. "Wait are you sure? You were at Tru's wedding, right? Sam's brother?"
Well, he supposed they didn't really know each other. And why was he calling on behalf of Faith anyway?
Dean
"Oh, maybe," Dean frowned, trying to remember.
"Sorry, I meet a lot of people in my line of work. But you're Tru's father, right?"
Zac
"Yeah, yeah," Zac replied cheerfully. "Same here. Occupational hazard?"
He chuckled.
"So, what's this about?"
Dean
"It's not... great news, I'm afraid," Dean frowned as he tried to think of how to word it.
"Tru is... here. Or her body's here. She's dead. She died a few days ago. Sorry, man."
Zac
Zac was silent for a good long moment.
"I... what?" he said, completely dumbfounded.
Maybe he heard wrong?
Dean
"Yeah, sorry. She was murdered three days ago. But we're working on finding who did it," Dean added.
Zac
Zac swallowed.
"So... wait... not only is Tru... is Tru dead, but she was murdered?"
This was some sort of bad dream. Right?
"Ah, yeah... that's what I said," Dean frowned.
"The funeral will be held here on the 26th. I can get someone to call later with more detailed details."
Zac
"Umm, yeah sure," Zac replied. "Thanks... for y'know, calling."
He felt like he should say more, but the words weren't there.
Dean
"We're staying at Wolfram & Hart until then if you feel the need to contact us. Otherwise, see you there," Dean wasn't sure how to end the awkwardness.
Zac
"Yeah," Zac said. "Okay, umm, thanks. Umm... see you there."
Dean
Dean hesitated, unsure if he should say something else, but decided against it and hung up.
He sighed and stood from the desk, before making his way out of the office.
