"What happened?" Sam frowned as he sidled up beside Ian.
"It was Paul," Ian shook his head.
"Remember how his computer crashed yesterday?"
"Yeah, I told him not to worry about it," Sam frowned.
"He stayed back until like, midnight or something crazy, and then fried his head in the microwave."
"Eww," Sam cringed, before looking up and making sudden eye contact with Dean.
Both of them stared for a moment, before Dean nodded to the man with him and turned to leave.
Sam gulped a little, before they headed back to their cubicles.
Faith
Faith stepped off the elevator, walking briskly through the IT department. She headed straight for the managers office, sparing a glance Sam's way, though she looked a little stressed out.
Sam
Sam gave the woman an empathetic look and he headed back to his bay.
He got into his email and started to stealthily try to hack into Paul's system.
Faith
After a lengthy argument with the manager, Faith stepped out of his office for some fresh air. She instinctively headed in Sam's direction, almost getting the sense that he would make the day a little easier for her.
"Working hard?" she asked with an amused look on her face.
Sam
"As always," Sam responded, barely looking up from his screen.
He quickly clicked off what he was doing so she wouldn't catch him in the act.
He finally turned to look at her.
"Are you ok?"
Faith
"Not really," Faith replied honestly.
She took her glasses off and hung them in the neckline of her shirt, before reaching up to rub the bridge of her nose.
"I take it you've heard about your co-worker?"
Sam
"Yeah, Paul, he was a good friend. I think," Sam looked confused for a second.
"Have they worked out what happened yet?"
He stood and started walking out so they could talk without everyone hearing.
Faith
Faith walked alongside Sam.
"Not exactly, though they have decided that I am the blame, because, evidently, I couldn't predict that this would happen."
Sam
"But you've been here one day, haven't you?" Sam frowned.
Faith
"Yes, but it was my job to report any glitches in the system," Faith explained. "I was meant to make sure all employees were happy in their jobs. And Paul, apparently, he wasn't happy."
Sam
"He was, he was happy," Sam insisted.
"Up until yesterday he was happy, I'm sure of it. He was two weeks from retiring, Faith, who takes their life when they're only two weeks from freedom?"
Faith
Faith paused for a second at Sam calling her by her first name, but she brushed the familiar feeling away.
"I don't know," she replied. "There's definitely more to this than we think."
Sam
Ian came out of the office and hit Sam on the arm as he went by.
"I just got called up to HR. Be back soon," he winked.
Sam frowned.
"Was it because of the-?"
"I hope they spank me," Ian grinned before disappearing into the elevator.
Sam watched after him and smirked.
Faith
"Sounds dire," Faith commented.
She glanced at Sam.
"Any theories on this Paul situation?"
Sam
Sam squinted down the hallway and nodded.
"I'm working on it," he assured.
"I just need to check something out first."
Faith
"Anything I can help out with?" Faith asked.
"I have access to just about everything here."
Sam
"Maybe," Sam nodded.
"Could you find out as much about the HR department as you can and get back to me tomorrow?"
Faith
Sure can," Faith replied.
She glanced back at the managers office.
"I better get back to my verbal spanking. I'll catch up with you later."
Sam & Dean
"Sure thing," Sam nodded, "thanks."
He headed for the elevator and pressed for the ground floor, with the elevator stopping at the next floor and Dean getting in.
"You again," Sam spoke before he thought.
"Yes," Dean nodded obviously.
"Can I ask you a question?" Sam asked.
"Look, I told you, I'm not into-"
"Oh come on, seriously," Sam scorned.
"Fine. Shoot."
Sam hesitated, putting his right hand in his pocket.
"What do you think of ghosts?"
"Excuse me?" Dean's eyebrows rose.
"Ghosts. You know, paranormal..."
"I don't know, never really thought about," Dean looked at him as if he were crazy.
"Right," Sam nodded, before clearing his throat awkwardly.
The elevator stopped at the ground floor and they both went their separate ways.
