Avery settled down on the sand, wriggling her toes in the sand as she strummed her guitar lightly. She closed her eyes, trying to feel out if anyone was nearby, and sensing nothing to the affirmative, she started to sing quietly, but sweetly.
"It was about ten minutes before dusk crept in / just another night with me and all my friends / yeah yeah / I was sitting by the water / when you first walked by / ooh, you caught my eye / and I wondered why..."
Avery opened her eyes again and gasped in surprise when she saw Lo standing there.
"So," Lo grinned. "You never told me about this little talent."
"I, um..." Avery paused. "I don't... I don't really let anyone hear me, usually."
"Why?" Lo asked, sitting down next to her friend. "You're good."
Avery shrugged. "I guess... I mean, I grew up with my brothers... they were the musical ones of the family. Jess was really into designing, Mack is pretty good at drawing, and Zoe turned out to be an amazing ballerina... and then there was me."
"What do you mean 'and then there was me'?" the blonde teen's eyebrows furrowed. "You don't see that you're special?"
Avery shrugged again. "I mean, with telepathy, yeah... but artistically, I never really felt like I fit in with my siblings."
"Avie, Lord knows I love you, but you can be really effing thick sometimes, you know that?" Lo scolded. "You are so much more than what you think you are. And you are artistically inclined, you have a beautiful voice. Don't hide it anymore, ok, Aves?"
Avery gave a small smile. "Baby steps, Lo-lo. I've only just come clean to Ike that I can sort of play guitar. I will try and get more confident with it though, I promise."
"Good," Lo nodded. "Coz you're my bestie, and I don't like seeing you down on yourself like this. Now, it's 2pm, and we have not eaten. Sushi, my dear?"
"Sushi," Avery agreed.
