"I'm running so late," Tru said, quickly pouring coffee into her thermos. She pushed the lid on top, and then leaned over to kiss Liam on the cheek.
"What time do you finish today?" Liam asked, looking up from the newspaper.
"Should be back here around four, four thirty. What are your plans?"
Liam shrugged. "Day off, have to head down to the bank later. Need me to pick anything up?"
"Maybe get something for dinner? Something easy to cook," Tru replied, grabbing her book bag off the counter.
"Easy for us?" Liam smirked. "That would be... something raw. Or pre cooked."
Tru chuckled, slinging her bag over her shoulder. "Surprise me. Love you."
"Love you too."

Liam was heading back to his car when he felt something poking into his back.
"Your wallet," a deep voice said, pushing the barrel of the gun further into Liam's spine. "Give it to me."
"Ok, ok," Liam said, holding his hands up. "Just let me – "
A single gunshot echoed through the street, and Liam slumped to the ground.

"I'm sorry, Tru," Davis said, putting his hand on her shoulder.
Tru nodded blankly, staring at the body covered in the white sheet on the table in front of her. She reached out, stopping at the last minute, her arm outstretched awkwardly, hanging midair, not knowing what to do.
"I'll give you a moment."
Tru barely heard Davis's footsteps retreating from the room. She took a step forward, and pulled the sheet away from Liam's face.
She bit her lip and ran her hand over his face.
"Please ask," she whispered. "Ask me for help, Liam. Please."

An hour later, defeated, Tru turned away from Liam's body. She looked towards the door when she heard a murmuring from one of the drawers. Squinting slightly, she walked over to it, and opened the door, pulling the body out.
A young girl turned to face her.
"Help me."

Tru woke with a start.
