Ulterior Motives

Written by Nessa

Tru

Tru pulled her phone out of her bag and barely glanced at the screen before flipping it open.

"Hello?"

"Tru, hi," George said. "It's your Grandfather."

Tru let out a silent sigh, and she sat down on the nearest bench. "What can I do for you, George?"

"Tru, don't be like that, please," George half pleaded. "We're family."

" Just because you knocked up that woman does not make you family," Tru replied, her tone biting. "You weren't there for my Mom. You weren't there for me. Family is always there, so what the hell do you want from me?"

George was silent for a long time. "I know. I wasn't there for you, or your mother. And I wish I could change that, but I can't. The only thing I can do is be here now and try to make up for it. And I want to do that, Tru. I really do. But you and your mother are shutting me out."

"Did it occur to you that we don't want you in our lives?" she asked. "Not meaning to sound rude, but did that occur to you? You can't heal twenty years of damage with a few phone calls, George. It's not going to work."

"I want to try," he answered. "I really do want to try. Please, please meet with me."

"Goodbye."

George cursed as the line went dead.

Fine, they weren't going to play nicely, then he was just going to have to do this in the most painful way possible. He gave them their chance.
