Healing Problems

Written by AiMsTeR and Nessa

Sam

Sam looked down on Faith as she lay unconscious in the bed.

She was looking better than she had the night before, but still not her best. She was still unconscious after all.

He took a deep breath before leaning over to her and placing a hand gently on her forehead, using his thumb to gently massage her fringe to the sides.

"Morning," he smiled sullenly.

Angel

Angel paused in the doorway, watching Sam with Faith for a moment. He smiled sadly, then coughed to alert Sam's attention.

"Hey, I have an update."

Sam

Sam jumped a little, not hearing Angel at first.

"So what's wrong?" he asked, voice a little raspy from tiredness.

"Why isn't she healing like usual?"

Angel

Angel walked into the room, stopping at the foot of Faith's bed. He put her hands on her feet, looking up at her unusually pale face.

"There must've been some sort of mystical interference," he said. "The healer said something was getting in the way of healing her completely. She's healing slower than usual."

Sam

"So her attacker..." Sam shook his head, uncertain.

"It could have been the mutant that's after us? But why would they attack so... I don't know. If they have all this power, why use a knife? Is what I'm getting at, I think."

Angel

Angel shrugged.

"Well, they've tried other ways before, right? Maybe they decided this might be the most effective way to get rid of her."

Sam

"Seriously?" Sam's eyebrows rose.

"Physical combat? Against Faith? Even I couldn't take her on without using..."

He hesitated at the thought.

Angel

Angel nodded, glancing at Faith again.

"My guess? They had to use telekinesis to hold her still. They couldn't've gotten such a good shot at her if she was moving around."

Sam

"My thoughts exactly," Sam gulped a little.

"And that mutant sounds very capable of doing such a thing. But again, if that were the case, why didn't they just go for the heart? Or at least the spinal cord? It doesn't make sense to hit her in the side, I mean..."

Angel

Angel shrugged.

"Maybe they were in a hurry? Or maybe they wanted it to be as painful as possibly. Heart and spine, that's almost instant, but in the side? She could bleed to death for hours and she'd have no way to contact anyone, unless someone happened to walk by and see her. And from what you've told me about these mutants that have been targeting you, slow death and pain seems to be exactly what they have been planning."

Sam

Sam thought about that and nodded.

"I guess so. Dean's time in the storm drain wasn't exactly pleasant."

Angel

"I'll get the healer to look in again tonight and work on her a little more," Angel told him.

"And she should be on the mend after that."

Sam

"Ok, thanks," Sam nodded.

"Do... do you think you guys can overcome the... healing problem thing?"

Angel

"I think so," Angel said, nodding.

"The wound has nearly healed over now, she just needs a bit more work to close it completely. I don't see it being a major problem. If it doesn't, we can stitch it up and she can rely on her regular healing to help her out."

Sam

"Ok cool," Sam nodded.

"I hope it's ok... I figured I'd set myself up in Faith's quarters. I called Dean and he's on his way."

Angel

"That's not a problem at all," Angel replied.

"I can keep watch for awhile, let you get some rest, if you like?"

Sam

"That's ok," Sam assured.

"I got some sleep before it happened, I'll stay a little while longer. But you're welcome to join me."

Angel

Angel shook his head.

"I'll come back in a few hours. Get some rest, Sam."
