He's Back

Written by Nessa

Faith and Gunn

Faith picked up her phone, glancing at the caller ID before answering. "Chuckles."

"Faith," Gunn returned. "Angel's back."

Silence was the only answer he received, and he waited patiently for her to say something. After a few minutes, when it became clear she was still in shock, he cleared his throat.

"Angel's back," she repeated numbly.

"Yeah."

"Uh," Faith shook her head, trying to clear it. "Is he ok? I mean, obviously... what's he like?"

"I... don't know, honestly," Gunn replied. "From what we know of that particular dimension... it suggests it's a world of brutal torment. And time moved differently there so - "

"I remember," Faith interrupted. "So he would've been down there for hundreds of years."

"Yes," Gunn said.

"Of torture," Faith stated, her voice getting a little softer.

"It would take someone of extraordinary will and character to survive that and retain any semblence of self," Gunn told her gently.

"So, he's a lost cause?" Faith asked.

"Maybe, maybe not," Gunn replied. "In my experience, there are... two types of monster. The first, uh, can be redeemed, or more importantly, wants to be redeemed."

"And the second type?"

"The second is void of humanity, cannot respond to reason... or love."

Faith was quiet for another long moment. "Can you send someone for me tomorrow? I need... I want to see him."
