Here's The Thing

Faith and Tru

Faith groped the bedside table for her phone in the darkness. She located it, and slid it open.

"Mom?" Tru asked.

"Hold on a sec," Faith replied.

She slid out from under the covers, slipped her feet into her boots, and opened the motel room door. She walked a little way away from the room before speaking.

"What's up?"

"Sorry, did I wake you?" Tru questioned. "I can call back?"

Faith yawned. "It's ok. What's wrong? Are you ok?"

"So far," Tru said. "Something weird is happening on campus. And I think it's something that you guys should get involved in."

"Ok," Faith stifled a yawn. "What's happening?"

"A girl from my anatomy class went missing last month," Tru began. "There was a rumour that she'd hooked up with the wrong guy and was laying low. But they found her last week. She'd been shot in the woods."

Faith cleared her throat. "Ok?"

"Anyway, one of my lab partners, Dodger," Tru continued. "She and her friends have this game they play. Anyway, she told me how they decided to make it seem like there was a killer on the loose, and they sent out this fake profile through email. Only... it's almost like it's coming true, Mom."

Faith rubbed her eyes. "You're sure it's not just a joke?"

"I'm pretty sure," she replied. "Another student's gone missing, he's not answering any calls. No one can get a hold of him. If I send you the email we were sent, do you think you guys could maybe come and check it out?"

"Alright," Faith told her. "Send me the email and I'll run it past the boys. If they don't think it's worth it, I'll come and see myself, k?"

"Thanks Mom," Tru replied. "Sorry for getting you up."

"No problem, bub."

"Night."
