Elemental Babies

Written by Michelle

Saku and Julie

The delicious smell of hot food lured Julie into the kitchen, where, much to her surprise, she found Saku and a dish of homemade lasanga.

"Hi," Saku said, spotting her. "I come baring food."

Julie's eyes rested on the lasanga for a time, then gave Saku a grateful smile.

"Thanks," she said appreciatively.

The smile was wiped away when she heard one of the quads start to crying and wearily she turned back to tend to... whichever one it was. She didn't even realise until she got there that Saku was with her. She murmered a soft "thanks" when he took it upon himself to change Shalimar's nappy, while she tried to soothe the other three.

She did, however, notice very well when a flame appeared in Shalimar's little hand.

"Saku!" she exclaimed in horror. "What are you doing?"

"Testing something," Saku replied as he let Julie snatch her baby away from him. "You have a problem."

"I have a problem? You're the one carry open flames around babies! Get out!"

"Shalimar is an elemental," Saku told her calmly.

"A what?"

"An elemental. And I suspect her siblings are too," Saku went on, his eyes narrowed slightly.

"What are you talking about?"

"Your kids have magical gifts. Specifically, Shalimar's is fire magic. I'd say that... Syl is water, Sketchy is earth and Skaara is air."

The name tags did help knowing who was who.

"So... what does this mean?"

"It means that either the father was a magic user, or the spells that were cast on you during your pregnancy linked the quads to magic. Have you put them up for adoption yet?"

"I don't see how that's any of your business," Julie objected.

"Well, it's not," Saku replied calmly. "But if I could suggest that you go through, hmm, the magically inclined community rather than a human adoption agency. Y'know, so they can be an environment that can support, train and understand their magicaly abilities. I can put you in touch with one if you like."

Julie pursed her lips, remembering what Corinne had perviously told her about Saku offering her advice.

"Okay," she replied finally. "I'll keep that in mind."
