Faith nursed the paper cup of coffee, sliding sunglasses onto her eyes to shield herself from the sun. She pulled her phone from her pocket and dialled Sam's number.
Yawning, she listened to the ring, waiting for him to answer.
Sam
Sam grabbed his phone from the dashboard, almost dropping it when he saw the caller ID.
"Hello? Faith?!"
Faith
"Yeah," Faith replied. "It's me."
She paused, picking at the top of her coffee cup.
"Look, can I meet you guys somewhere?"
Sam & Dean
"Yeah, sure, where are you?" Sam asked, beckoning to Dean who handed him a pen.
Faith
"Just about to cross from Idaho to Montana, you wanna meet me at Butte?"
Faith couldn't even stop the smile from entering her voice.
"How far away are you?"
Sam
"We're just heading out of Dakota. We'll be there," Sam insisted.
"Go to the first motel in the yellow pages. You'll either see the car, or just check in and wait for us."
Faith
"Sure will, handsome," Faith drawled, some of her old self re- entering her voice.
She hung up and tossed the coffee cup into the nearest bin, before tucking her phone into her pocket and getting back on the bike.
Sam & Dean
The sun had long set by the time Sam and Dean pulled into the motel. Sam pointed out her bike, and Dean parked nearby.
"Bike's still warm," Sam said, touching it.
He jogged up to the door and knocked, in case it was the wrong room.
Faith
Faith opened the door a fraction, but as soon as she saw it was Sam, she opened it all the way.
"Hi," she said, stepping back.
Dean & Sam
Dean walked up behind Sam, pausing at the next window where he could hear some very... telling noises. Chuckling to himself, he appeared by Sam's side.
"Hey," Sam said awkwardly, stepping inside, "are you ok?"
Faith
"I'm fine," Faith said, going back to her position on the bed.
"But I have something to show you."
Dean & Sam
"Yes please!" Dean grinned.
"Dean," Sam said sternly.
"Well hey," Dean pointed at the roof, indicating the noises from next door.
Faith
Faith nodded towards the envelope on the table closest to Sam.
"Have a look."
Sam & Dean
Sam picked up the envelope and opened it, Dean watching boredly.
"What's this?" Sam frowned, looking over the papers.
Faith
"My medical records at Seattle Grace hospital," Faith replied.
"My abortion. Or rather, the failed abortion."
Sam & Dean
"Ok..." Sam looked confused, "a, what abortion? And b..."
"It says it went fine," Dean snatched the papers, "dude this was only a few months ago. Weren't we on the road that whole time?"
Faith
"No, it's..."
Faith rubbed her eyes tiredly.
"Look, for some reason, I'm the only one who remembers this. Dr Montgomery doesn't remember anything past this. But it failed. It was able to protect itself somehow, Dean even tried to stab me to get rid of it!"
She looked at Sam, her eyes pleading with him to remember.
"It was half demon or something. It was your kid, Sam."
Sam & Dean
Sam frowned.
"I stabbed you?" Dean frowned.
"First you tell us you had a demon kid, and then you tell us I stabbed you? This is going well."
Faith
"You tried," Faith corrected. "Sam cried and everything. But it didn't work. The knife didn't even touch me. Demon baby needed me to survive, after all."
She ran a hand through her hair.
"Any of this is ringing a bell? I didn't show the pregnancy, because it was, obviously, a supernatural thing. Oh! Though Dean did enjoy my boobs getting bigger."
Dean & Sam
"Who wouldn't?"
"Faith, this is..." Sam cut himself off.
"Ridiculous is what it is. Come on, demon babies? I mean for all we know any kid you two had could be completely human. You both started human after all," Dean rationalised.
Faith
"Oh good, let's get the warm and fuzzies for the kid now, after months of you both looking at me like I was diseased."
Faith shook her head.
"Dean shot you, Sam. Well, technically, he was trying to shoot me, but you stepped in. You should have a scar on your arm to prove it. And I gave you a handjob and he walked in."
Sam & Dean
Sam's face flushed red.
"I remember that," Dean chuckled.
"Yeah, but she wasn't pregnant," Sam glanced at him.
"No, she wasn't. You weren't, I mean."
Faith
"I was, actually," Faith said. "I don't know why you guys can't remember, or why I couldn't before and can now."
She closed her eyes for a long moment.
"Can we just... agree to disagree? I mean, I know I'm right, but you guys think I'm crazy. I'll keep researching this thing, but... whoever cleaned up after it did a great job."
Dean & Sam
"Damn straight," Dean scoffed.
He patted Sam on the shoulder.
"And on that note, I'm gonna leave you crazy kids to it and go get laid."
And he left the motel room, Sam frowning after him.
Faith
Faith looked across at Sam, somewhat awkwardly.
"Uh... sorry for disappearing," she said after a long pause.
Sam
"That's ok," Sam said, also awkwardly.
"I'm just... glad you're back. Sort of."
Faith
"Wow," Faith said dryly.
"That's heartwarming. Really."
Sam
"I meant you're not really 'back', per se," Sam corrected, going to sit on the opposite bed.
"Are you?"
Faith
"I'm here," Faith told him.
"I'll come with you as long as you want me around."
Sam
"Of course I do, but you'll be preoccupied is all," Sam shrugged.
"And... you will have to return the bike at some point."
Faith
"A perk of having taken it from a school of mutants, Sam," Faith said.
"Teleporters galore. Logan should have no problem coming to get it."
Sam
"Right. Logan," Sam nodded.
He hesitated, quiet for a moment.
"So this baby... thing. How much do you remember?" he asked, worried.
Faith
"Everything up until the coma," Faith replied.
"It was fuzzy at first, but it's getting clearer everyday. And I don't know why only I can remember."
Sam
"Neither do I," Sam sighed, leaning forward with his arms on his knees.
"And you know what? I'm starting to believe you. Not because of the story, but... Dean and I have been having trouble... remembering things lately. I mean not since you woke up, but Dean didn't remember even arriving there and stuff like that."
Faith
"I talked to Logan and Xavier about that kind of thing," Faith said, nodding. "Any basic level of telepath could do the mind wiping thing. But you'd probably want to be experienced to do it to the scale that it was done."
She rubbed her arm absently.
"I mean, no one remembers. Not Hank, or Angel, or Logan, or Tru... no one."
Sam
"Not even me. And I'm... supposedly the father," Sam shrugged.
Faith
"Supposedly?" Faith shook her head slightly. "Alright, questions of paternity aside, my main concern is... who took the kid, and why? What has that person got planned?"
Sam
"Must be big," Sam frowned.
"Why go to all the effort? But if this kid has powers, which... in this case I don't see Dean's view, I think it would have some serious capability, that would make it a pretty big trophy for any demon or anything, really."
Faith
Faith was quiet for a moment, trying to remember the past few months.
"It had telekinesis," she said after a minute. "And telepathy. I was able to use both of those things at one point."
Sam
"You were able to use it through the kid?" Sam's eyebrows rose.
Faith
"Not... consciously. Only when I was stressed or in trouble or something," Faith said.
"And only usually to you. My telepathy only really ranged to you."
Sam
"Maybe it was on the same wavelength or something," Sam picked from his fingernails.
Faith
"Or a family thing?" Faith suggested.
"I don't know, it's probably important, but my brain can only handle so much information at one time."
Sam
"Yeah, same," Sam sighed.
"And... finding out I'm a Dad has kinda taken the wind out of me right now. Or at least getting my head around the idea."
Faith
Faith nodded and extended one arm towards Sam.
"Need a hug?" she smiled faintly.
Sam
Sam smiled back.
"I think I do," he pouted playfully, moving over to her bed and wrapping his arms around her.
"I missed you," he sighed.
Faith
Faith slide her arms around Sam in return, leaning into his shoulder and breathing deeply.
"I missed you too."
She then smacked him over the back of the head.
Sam
"Ow!" Sam exclaimed, ducking and holding his head.
"What was that for?"
Faith
"The pouting," Faith said, as if he should already know.
"When you pout, it makes me sad. So don't pout."
Sam
"Fine. You're stupid," Sam teased.
Faith
"Pfft," Faith replied, waving her hand dismissively. "You're a loser."
Sam
"Well you're a stupid loser!" Sam hit back.
Faith
Faith paused for a moment, then grinned.
"You're exactly like Dean."
Sam
"Oh wow," Sam sat back.
"I have... no idea how to take that."
Faith
Faith smirked, then leaned over and poked him in the arm.
"Come here, loser."
Sam
"Ok stupid," Sam leaned in to her, kissing her on the lips.
Faith
Faith kissed him back, sliding her arms around his neck.
"Such a loser."
Sam
"So stupid," Sam chuckled into the kiss, before pushing her down onto the bed.
