Faith yawned, lazily watching Sam on his laptop from her place on the bed.
"New case?" she asked tiredly.
Sam & Dean
"Maybe," Sam said thoughtfully, "there's a few that look interesting. A couple in Iowa were slaughtered in their car off the interstate, and a kid in Wyoming was attacked by something a witness insists was a werewolf..."
"I vote werewolf," Dean put his hand up from where he lay on the bed.
Faith
"So, the usual day at the office."
Faith stood up and stretched, before pausing, and pulling a horrified face.
Sam & Dean
"Yep, nothing but excitement for us," Sam drawled sarcastically.
Dean was watching Faith curiously.
Faith
Faith looked down at the ground, where there was a puddle between her legs.
"No way. No way!"
Dean & Sam
Dean's eyebrows rose and he screwed his face up.
"I know the baby's supposed to be on your bladder, but come on..."
Sam glanced over, then did a double take and jumped from his chair.
"Tell me that's not what I think it is."
Faith
"It's not pee."
Faith groaned.
"Apparently demonic pregnancies are faster. We're... we're gonna need some help."
Sam & Dean
"Great. Ambulance. Wait! No. Who do I call?!" Sam was pacing back and forth with cell phone in hand.
"Try Angel, he has the answers to everything. Except getting rid of it," Dean rolled his eyes.
Sam dialled Angel's number, then went through Faith's bag to find some extra clothes.
Angel
Angel answered the phone quickly.
"Sam?"
Sam
"It's coming!" Sam exclaimed, "and we're in a motel room in Ohio!"
Angel and Faith
Angel immediately pressed a button on his intercom.
"Sending a teleporter and organising my staff now. They'll be with you shortly."
~*~*~*~
Faith winced as the contractions started.
Sam
Sam hung up and grabbed some towels. One to dump on the floor and one to push between Faith's legs.
"They're coming. Do you want to sit down? Can you sit down? Or do you want to stand?"
Faith and Angel
"I'll stand," Faith said, between deep breaths. "Oh God, I hate having a vagina."
Seconds later, their usual teleporter appeared, looking slightly harassed and scared.
"Are we ready?"
~*~*~*~
Angel had the medical wing on red alert, and Addison and Hank were both ready.
Dean & Sam
Dean finally got off his ass and went to stand beside Sam.
"We're ready," Sam nodded.
"Guess I'll see you in a few days," Dean rubbed his brother's shoulder.
"Yeah," Sam nodded, taking Faith's arm and grabbing her bag.
Faith, Angel and Addison
Faith was concentrating on not breaking his bones as she held onto Sam's hand.
The teleporter touched her shoulder and in a second they were at Wolfram and Hart.
Angel was barking orders to his staff when they appeared.
Hank lifted Faith onto the gurney.
"How far apart?" Addison asked Faith.
"About... about... ugh!" Faith winced again, before answering. "Six minutes. Or so."
"Take her into the OR," Addison ordered.
Sam & Dean
Dean meanwhile, looked around the now empty motel room.
"Well, crap," he huffed at the pool on the floor, "I ain't cleaning that."
~*~
"What's gonna happen?!" Sam demanded from the first person he could find.
"She can't do it naturally, right?!"
Hank, Addison and Faith
Hank put a calming hand on Sam's shoulder.
"She's going to have to," he said softly. "The contractions are too close together for a c-section."
Addison was already scrubbing in as they wheeled Faith into the OR.
"Do you want to come in?" Hank asked him. "I can get you a gown and a cap, if you like?"
Sam
"I think I have to," Sam gulped nervously.
"If something goes awry... I might be the only one able to control it."
Hank and Addison
Hank nodded, and went to fetch the items, returning seconds later.
"Through there to scrub in," he said, indicating. "You can probably hold her hand. I suspect yours and Angel's will be the only hands she won't break the bones of."
Addison was murmuring calming words to Faith.
Sam
"I doubt that," Sam breathed, before going to get ready.
He soon found himself in the room, unsure of whether he should be at Faith's side... or the other end.
Addison and Faith
"Ok, Faith," Addison said, looking across at the Slayer. "You're fully dilated."
Faith nodded, seeing black spots in front of her eyes from the pain.
"Stay with me," Addison told her. "You can get through this. I will get you through this."
Sam
Sam's eyes were on Addison as she spoke. He gulped again, then spoke telepathically.
"I'm here for you Faith. You'll be fine."
Faith and Addison
"Ok," Faith said, to both Sam and Addison. "I'm ready."
Addison nodded. "I need you to push."
Faith's back arched as she tried, almost yelling out in pain.
Sam
Sam cringed as she yelled out, then frowned before a look of panic crossed his face.
"Why is her lip twitching?" he asked.
Faith and Addison
Faith winced again, pushing as hard as she could.
Karev nudged Addison. "Dr Montgomery... it could be - "
"I know," Addison half snapped. "But I need to get this baby out before she goes all the way into it. Talk him through."
Karev stepped out from beside Addison to talk to Sam.
"It's a sign of eclampsia," he said gently. "We're going to try and get your baby out before she goes through all the stages."
Sam
"What? What stages?! She takes precendence over the baby no matter what!" Sam insisted.
Addison and Faith
"Karev!" Addison warned. "It's crowning."
Faith was panting for breath.
"We're going to do our best to make sure they both come through this," Karev said to Sam, misunderstanding the man's distress.
Sam
"No!" Sam exclaimed, "you don't understand! Kill the baby if you have to! Just please dear God don't let her die too."
Addison and Faith
"Karev, I need help here!" Addison ordered.
Alex stood there for a second, looking at Sam in shock, before going to help his boss.
Faith's body was laying perfectly flat and everything was silent before the baby's cries filled the room.
Sam
Sam paused a moment in shock.
"Faith? Faith?!"
"Faith?!"
Addison, Hank and Faith
Addison handed the baby to Hank, who went to clean it up as Addison attended to Faith.
"Faith!" Addison called. "Stay with me - "
Faith let out a moan of pain before her body started convulsing.
"Karev, hold her still!" Addison ordered. "Oxygen! She's going to stop breathing."
And as if on cue, Faith's breathing ceased.
Sam
"Oh my God," Sam covered his eyes, "this can't be happening."
Addison, Hank and Faith
"She's cyanotic!" Addison said, helping Karev fix the oxygen mask over Faith's head.
"It's not too bad," Karev told her, watching Faith's skin turn slightly blue. "She's getting oxygen now."
"Minute is almost up," Addison observed. "Hank, how are you doing with the bub?"
"He's ok," Hank called back. "Just had to hook him into some oxygen too."
Faith's eyes fluttered open and she stared at Sam, unseeing.
Addison injected something into her arm and the brunette took a breath, opening her mouth to speak before her eyes slid closed again.
"Dammit!" Addison cursed. "We were too late. Karev, go make sure there's a room free. I have to clean her up here and - "
She paused, noticing Sam.
Sam
"Leave him!" Sam instructed Hank, "he doesn't need it. Believe me."
Hank and Addison
Hank ignored Sam, and finished attending to the baby, before going to assist Addison.
"She progressed to stage four?" he asked quietly.
Addison nodded. "I'm still new to this... supernatural business. Her immune system is a little different, yes?"
"Yes," Hank replied, helping the redhead wheel Faith's gurney out of the OR. "She might come out of this earlier, but she might not, considering her medical history."
Sam
Anger overtook Sam and he stepped over to the crib and yanked the oxygen out sharply.
Leaning over the baby, he cursed mentally as he saw it already breathe on its own.
Addison and Angel
Addison set Faith up in the private room, and then came out to update Angel on the situation.
~*~*~*~
Angel found Sam and briefly wondered if he should approach him, or wait until he had calmed a little.
Sam
Sam turned his head slightly, seeing Angel in what little periphal he had.
"It got to her," he said simply, his teeth clenched.
Angel
"The eclampsia?" Angel asked carefully. "It was always a high risk, considering her past medical history."
He paused for a moment.
"She should wake soon, I'm told these comas don't last long."
Sam
"That's not what I meant," Sam shook his head, his right fist also clenching.
"It's this. It's all because of this. She's in there because of him. And we tried everything."
Angel
"There's no point in going over everything now," Angel told him.
"It's not going to change the situation. All you can do is just wait it out, and I'll have my team start running tests and finding his weaknesses."
Sam
"The only one you'll find is that he's mortally human," Sam sighed, stepping back dejectedly.
"You just can't get close enough to hurt him. Damnit!"
Angel
"Go sit with her," Angel said, rubbing his temples.
"I'll keep watch over him."
Sam
"I don't think he wants me to," Sam frowned.
Angel
"What do you mean?" Angel asked.
Sam
Sam tilted his head slightly, confused.
"I'm not sure," he said softly.
He suddenly shook out of it, and quickly left the room.
"I've gotta call Dean, sorry."
Angel
Angel sighed and then went back to see how Faith was doing.
Sam
Sam struggled to find Dean's number, but finally called his brother.
And got his voicemail.
"Dean, hey, it's Sam," his voice shook ad he paused a moment to steady it.
"It's happened. He survived. Faith... Faith's not doing so good. So ah... Just hit me up when you get to town, ok?"
He paused, debating if he should add anything, then hung up and leant back against the wall.
