Kate stood at the front door of Zac's house for a few minutes, silently debating whether or not this should be a face to face conversation or an over the phone one.
Face to face won, and she reached up to ring the bell.
Zac
"Kate!" Zac greeted cheerfully, opening up the door. "Come on in. Hey, y'know, I should probably get you a key."
He nodded.
Kate
"Probably, seeing as we're engaged and all," Kate teased lightly.
She followed him inside.
Zac
Zac grinned. He closed the door behind Kate, then kissed her briefly.
"Want a drink or anything?" he offered.
Kate
"No, no, I'm good. I can't stay long anyway," Kate said, pushing her hair behind her ears.
"I've got so much school work to finish off before I go to work tonight."
Zac
"Ahh," Zac nodded.
He wrapped his arms around Kate and kissed her nose.
"So..."
Kate
Kate gently disentangled herself from Zac's arms.
"Hey, I think we need to talk."
Zac
"Sure," Zac replied. "About what?"
Why was it the words 'we need to talk' always made him nervous?
Kate
"Ah... an offer I got for when I finish school."
Kate shrugged slightly.
Zac
"Oh yeah?" Zac asked with interest.
Okay cool, moment of panic averted. Clearly this wasn't going to be a calling off the engagement talk.
Kate
"Yeah," Kate said, nodding.
"Last year, I sent in my portfolio and applied for a modelling program in Japan. And last month I got a call to say I was accepted."
She paused.
"It's a year long program. And I accepted, and I do want to go, but I won't if you don't want me to."
Zac
"Kate, that's fantastic," Zac said enthusiastically, taking her hands. "Of course you should go. This is a great opportunity for you."
Kate
"Yeah," Kate said, nodding. "To be honest... I still would've gone even if you had a problem with it."
She grinned.
Zac
Zac laughed.
"Well, that works out well then," he grinned. "When do you start?"
Kate
"After I graduate, so not right away."
Kate tucked her hair behind her ears.
"And we probably need to start these wedding plans, right?"
Zac
Zac nodded.
"When did you want to get married anyway?" he asked. "Before Japan? After Japan? In Japan?"
He wondered what a Japanese wedding would be like anyway.
Kate
"Before would probably be better," Kate said, after thinking for awhile. "Because if I end up getting more work while I'm over there... I don't know my plans for after Japan."
Zac
Zac nodded slowly.
"Okay, well, I guess we'd better start making plans then," he said.
Kate
"Yeah," Kate said, nodding.
She stood up.
"But, I have school stuff to take care of, so maybe tomorrow?"
Zac
Zac nodded.
"Okay," he said, standing up with her. "Have fun."
He grinned.
Kate
Kate kissed him goodbye before she went on her merry little way.
