Angel sat beside Faith's bed, watching her sleep. He touched her arm gently, her chest rising and falling steadily as she breathed deeply.
He slipped his phone onto the bedside table, and rested his head in his hands, waiting for Sam to call.
Sam & Dean
Once the impala had made it to Wolfram & Hart, Sam dialled Angel's number.
"Come on..." he muttered, as Dean looked on.
Angel
Angel picked the phone up straight away, getting up to leave the room so he wouldn't disturb Faith.
"Sam?"
Sam
"Yeah, give me the specs," Sam sounded as wired as he was.
Angel
"She's been transferred to the medical wing of Wolfram and Hart," Angel told him.
"So get on the nearest elevator and it's level 15."
Sam & Dean
"Oh great," Sam indicated for them to park the car.
Dean swung it into the garage.
"We'll be there soon, we're just in the garage."
Angel
"I should probably get you your own security code," Angel mused.
"Alright, I'll see you in a few. She's in the first room across from the nurse's station."
He hung up and went back to see Faith.
Sam & Dean
Sam put his phone away and jumped out of the car as soon as it stopped.
"Hey!" Dean exclaimed, stepping out to find Sam already at the doors.
"Fifteenth floor! I'll meet you up there!" and he disappeared.
Dean rolled his eyes and locked up the car.
When Sam made it to the floor he headed for the nurse's station, then ducked into the room across the hall. Upon spying Faith, he dashed to her bedside and took her hand in his.
"How is she?" he asked, kneeling on the floor.
Angel and Faith
"Less pain now," Angel said, stepping back slightly. "She's been drifting in and out of sleep since we moved her."
Faith's eyes opened, as if she knew Sam were there, and she blinked a few times, waiting for her eyes to focus.
Sam
"Hey, hey, it's me, Sam," Sam said softly to her, his other hand reaching up to wipe her forehead gently.
Angel and Faith
"Hey," Angel greeted, stepping into her line of vision.
"You," Faith ordered tiredly to the vampire. "Go sleep."
"Well I had to wait," Angel smiled. "I couldn't leave you in just anybody's hands, now, could I? It was either Sam or myself. No dice."
He touched her feet lightly as he walked towards the exit.
"Go!" she insisted.
Angel nodded. "I'll be back in a few hours to check up on you."
Faith turned her attention back to Sam, once Angel had left. "Hi."
Sam
Sam smiled a little as she ordered Angel out, waiting until he was spoken to.
"Hey," he said again.
"How are you feeling?"
Faith
"Fine," Faith replied, squeezing his fingers weakly.
"Little groggy, but I'm ok. I'm guessing Angel made it sound teribly dramatic?"
Sam
"He said you were in a lot of pain," Sam amended.
"I didn't really give him time to elaborate. Care to?"
Faith
"Ah."
Faith was quiet for a moment.
"Well, actually, this can probably be blamed on you, in a way. They've diagnosed me with pre-eclampsia."
Sam
Sam gave her a blank look.
"Which is... what?"
Faith
"Basically, my body is rejecting the proteins from the placenta, and it's elevating my blood pressure level," Faith explained.
"It's... it can cause some serious complications, especially if it leads to eclampsia itself, and there's no real cure for it. I just need to monitor my blood pressure... but that's really all I can do."
Sam
Sam nodded, digesting it.
"What about the pain?" he asked eventually, "will it get better? Worse? Are you gonna be bedridden?"
Faith
"It really depends on how high my blood pressure goes," Faith said.
She rubbed his hand with her fingers softly.
"I should be alright walking around, as long as I don't get stressed."
Sam
"So this is something that's gonna last, huh?" Sam looked forlorn.
"Is there any medication you can go on? I mean I guess you don't want to stay in this bed for the next five months, right?"
Faith
"Yeah, there's no cure for it," Faith told him.
"It'll clear itself up once I've given birth. All I can really do is keep my stress levels down, and eat healthily. And get a lot of rest."
Sam
"And it really doesn't affect the baby at all?" Sam almost whined.
"You're going through all this pain for nothing. I hate it."
Faith
"No, it's all me, basically," Faith said. "If it gets more serious, it will affect the baby, but that also means it gets more serious for me too."
She reached up to touch Sam's chin.
"It's ok. Pain, I can handle."
Sam
"I know," Sam looked into her eyes pitifully.
"That doesn't mean I have to like it. Or live with it and not complain childishly."
Faith
"Awww," Faith grinned.
"I'll be ok, seriously. And if it makes you feel better, I can just bitch and whine about it constantly."
Sam
"I'm sure there'll be enough bitching and whining going around over the next few months without adding theatre to the mix," Sam assured, picking himself up from the floor and sitting on the bedside chair.
Faith
"Are you implying I will be bitching and whining anyway?" Faith asked.
"Well, I will. And I'll make you rush out to get me whatever I crave. Oh and doctors orders, kid. We have to have more sex. I need more exposure to your sperm."
Sam
"What?!" Sam laughed at the last part, "you're kidding."
Faith
Faith grinned, her tongue sticking out a little.
"Nope, I was actually told by a doctor that exposure to the father's sperm would reduce symptoms."
Sam
"But won't the exertion hurt more?" Sam's eyebrows rose.
Faith
"How rough are you planning to be and why weren't you that rough before?" Faith asked.
She shook her head.
"No, supposedly it's really good for a pregnant woman to have a lot of sex. Or, you know, I could just blow you."
She smiled innocently.
Sam
"Somehow I don't think that kind of contact would have quite the same effect," Sam reasoned.

Faith
"I'll ask the doctor."
Faith grinned slightly.
"So, did you miss me?"
Sam
"Of course I missed you, stupid," Sam teased.
"Although I hate the reuniting circumstances, it's definitely good to at least see you again."
Faith
"Awww, loserface."
Faith reached to pull him to her for a kiss.
"Yeah, who knows if I'll survive the next few months."
Sam
"Shut up and kiss me," Sam scorned, leaning in and kissing her on the lips.
Faith
"I like this dominating side."
Faith kissed him back softly.
