Zac took a deep breath and punched in Faith's mobile number. After he had to go and actually look up what it was. It had been that long since he'd last called her, he didn't have it memorised any more.
Funny how things change.
He pressed the last digit and waited while the phone rang.
Faith
Faith tilted her head, her enhanced hearing picking up the sound of her phone ringing from a few rooms away. She paused the dvd she was watching, then got up, heading for her bedroom.
"Hello?"
Zac
"Hi Faith," Zac said. "It's Zac. How are you?"
Faith
"Oh hi," Faith replied, sounding a little surprised.
"Alright, little bored as Angel seems to have me on house arrest. How are you?"
Zac
"Oh, good, good... You're under house arrest?" Zac inquired.
He hadn't expected that.
Faith
"Oh, I've just been really sick, so Angel's enforced this 'no patrolling, nothing' sort of rule until I'm better."
Faith shrugged.
"Bored out of my mind since I told Sam to go on ahead and I'd catch up when I was feeling better."
Zac
"That sucks," Zac replied. "Hope you feel better soon."
He paused.
"So ahh... what do you know about this Liam guy that Tru's been seeing?"
Faith
Faith smiled.
"What do you want to know? He's a nice guy. A little quiet, but then, that's Tru all over as well."
Zac
Zac chuckled.
"I don't know," he replied. "I mean, he came over here a few days ago and asked me for permission to marry Tru. I gave it, but I don't really know anything about him. Figured I should probably call you and hope I did the right thing."
Faith
Faith laughed.
"Yeah, he asked me the other day too. Right decision, don't worry. You'll understand when you see the two of them together. I hate to admit it, but they're kind of sweet."
Zac
"Aww," Zac chuckled. "Like that is it?"
He grinned.
Faith
"Pretty much," Faith replied.
"I was pretty sure it was heading towards marriage when he uprooted his life in LA and moved to Palo Alto with her."
Zac
"Ahh, I see," Zac nodded. "Okay cool."
He paused for a moment.
"Okay so, yeah, that was really the only thing I was calling about. Is it just me or does it feel really weird having a grown up daughter?"
Faith
"Well," Faith considered. "I see her more, so I guess I'm kind of used to it."
She shrugged.
"How's Saku though? Isn't he like... old?"
Zac
Zac chuckled.
"Yeah," he replied. "He looks, I dunno, 20 maybe these days. And he's gotten himself engaged too. I know kids grow up fast but this is ridiculas."
Faith
Faith shrugged.
"Married before their parents. Hmmm. Well, in Tru's case it was always bound to happen. I'm not going to get married again."
She briefly wondered if that would offend him, though that hadn't been the intention of the statement.
Zac
Zac chuckled.
"Yeah," he said. "I don't know if I'll ever marry again. Maybe if I found someone I liked enough to date for five years or something."
For some reason Kate's face came to mind.
Faith
"Yeah, I think I'm really not the marrying type."
Faith shrugged.
"Though, Sam and I are basically married. Everything without ceremony."
Zac
Zac laughed a little.
"Well, with or without wedding rings, I'm happy for you, Faithy," he said seriously. "I'm... I'm glad that you found someone that makes you that happy."
Faith
Faith cringed involuntarily at the nickname before speaking.
"Thanks, I guess. I mean, it's still a little weird discussing it with anyone, and Angel gets this weird look in his eyes and I think Lorne is planning a wedding."
Zac
Zac laughed cheerfully.
"I promise if he invites me, I won't shout 'I object' or anything," he teased.
Faith
"Well, chances are, if you're invited, Sam and I won't be turning up," Faith replied, shrugging. "I'm not doing the marriage thing again."
She paused.
"Anyway..."
Zac
Zac chuckled.
"Anyway, yeah, so Liam was really all I was calling about. Just wanted to make sure I'd done the right thing."
Faith
"Yeah, all is good."
Faith was quiet for a second.
"Anyway, I'll talk to you later."
Zac
"Yeah," Zac replied. "See ya."
And the two hung up.
