"Hello?"
"Hi Rogue!"
"Julie! Hey, how's it going?"
"Oh, not too bad. Well... I... yeah..."
"You don't sound so sure," Rogue chuckled.
"I'm just... kinda looking forward to this pregnancy being over."
Rogue was silent for a moment.
"Yeah," she replied dryly. "I've heard about that sort of thing."
"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to... I just," Julie stopped and took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, I'm going about this all wrong."
"Okay."
"How's things going, anyway? Making much progress?"
"It's still early days, I'm afraid."
"I'm sorry. I umm... okay well, I was wondering if you'd be interested in adopting?"
Rogue frowned.
"Well, I've thought about - oh, Oh!"
"I mean, they did confirm that it was quads, and I'm by no means suggesting that you should adopt all of them. Well, I suppose you can if you want to, but four would be a handful, and I'm rambling, I know -"
"No."
"Huh?"
"No, Julie. I appreciate the offer, I do, but I couldn't adopt your kids. It just... I want to have my own kids, if I can, and it just... it wouldn't be fair on the kids either. Because I would always look at them and know that they were yours, and I'm not sure I could deal with that right now."
"Yes, of course. I understand."
"Thanks for thinking of me, anyway."
"Oh that's okay. We're quite a pair, aren't we?"
Rogue chuckled ruefully.
