The Same

Edward and Faith

Edward watched as Faith decapitated the last vampire, her movements almost graceful, as if she were dancing in a ballet, rather than fighting demons. He stood stock still for a moment, debating whether or not to come out into the open and finally meet her.

"I know you're there," Faith said, without turning around. "You've been watching me for months now."

"I have," Edward replied, stepping out into the dim streetlight.

She turned, finally, and caught sight of the vampire who had been following her trail. "You're one of them."

He nodded. "I am."

"Why are you here?"

"You met Alice," he told her, not answering her question directly. "She told you about us. How we live... a vegetarian lifestyle."

"Yes," Faith nodded. "We made an agreement."

Edward noticed her hands going for her knife and he held a finger up. "It has not been broken by us."

"There are more." It was more of a statement than a question.

"Yes." The vampire nodded, and extended his hand. "My family and I think you need some help."

"What makes you think I need help with it?" she asked, not with any bite, just curious.

"Your kind are dying out," Edward answered. "These are a new strain. Vampires who are not as vulnerable. You need to know how they will strike."

"And you know?" Faith questioned.

Edward shook his head. "One of our kind is creating an army of newborns. We are strongest when we are first reborn. They will be violent and unpredictable. You need to know how to fight that. And we can help. My brother, can help."

"How?"

"My brother, Jasper, used to train these newborn vampires, hundreds of years ago. We say we are a new breed, but I suppose new is a relative term. We are hundreds of years old, but not thousands, like the vampires you usually come across."

Faith nodded slowly. "And Jasper knows how to fight them?"

"Jasper knows how they will strike and the best defence against that," Edward continued. "If you would be willing, I would like you to come meet my family, though, I understand that sounds a little funny, considering who we are."

Faith thought about that for a long time. "I trust that Alice will keep her word."

Edward nodded. "Tomorrow, I will take you to meet Carlisle. He's our father."

"And you are?"

"Edward," he smiled, before turning around. "I'll come find you tomorrow night."
