Perfect Fit

Written by Nessa

Angel and Faith

"That sounds dire," Angel said dryly, leaning back against the headboard of his bed, phone resting against his ear and shoulder comfortably as he stirred the mug of blood absently.

"It is," Faith replied, sitting just outside the motel room, wrapped in one of the spare blankets from the cupboard, so as not to wake the boys.

"I feel for you, Faith, I really do," the vampire told her.

"You should," she answered. "You have no idea how difficult it is to go about daily tasks when you have a sore - "

"Don't say it," Angel interrupted. "Because the mental picture you are painting is actually curing me of any sort of appetite. And I would very much like to finish this cup."

The dark haired Slayer smirked to herself. "It's not my fault that Sam pounds - "

"Oh God!" he sputtered, drops of blood staining his bedsheets. "Please don't. That's really something I could do without."

She snorted. "Ok, ok. But you asked me what I've been doing over the last few months and one activity seemed to stand out more than anything else. So what was I supposed to tell you?"

"Skim over," Angel said. "In fact, not mentioning it would've been a good option."

"I know," Faith replied, grinning. "But you know me. I live to torture you."

"I'm starting to think that is the case, actually."

Faith chuckled again. "Yeah, it is a highlight. Anyway, aside from the sex, not much really. The usual. Kidnapped by Lindsey and brainwashed, evidently, working cases, being sick, you know."

"Lindsey?" Angel asked. "What happened?"

"Ah, you'd probably have to talk to Sam about that," Faith told him. "I don't actually remember any of it, so he's probably able to fill in the blanks for you."

"That's a good idea, actually," Angel mused. "Though, from the looks he had last night, I don't know if I'm actually his favourite person. Vampire."

"I think he gets paranoid," she said after a moment. "That I like you better or something. Or because I drop everything to help you. Or... I don't know. But I think he gets nervous about the Faith/Angel relationship."

"He's not the only one," Angel pointed out. "Nina?"

"Are you still seeing her?"

"No," he replied. "It just didn't work out."

"Cordy?"

"Uh... we're... good. I think. We're getting back on track."

"You mean, after she screwed your son and gave birth to an unholy Hell beast?" Faith questioned.

"Can you cram complex issues into a nutshell or what?"

"It's a talent. But seriously... it's good that you guys are getting there again. It's good that you're moving on from B. It's time." The Slayer pulled the blanket tighter around her body.

"So, you think you guys are going to be out this way in the next few days?" he asked.

"I'm not sure, to be honest," she replied. "Though, maybe could do a quick visit in the next few days. If you have a teleporter handy?"

"Shouldn't be a problem," Angel assured her. "You should bring Sam along. I'd be interested in talking to him."

"Guy talk?" Faith teased.

"Definitely," he grinned. "All hockey and basketball talk. You know the pair of us so well."

"Well then, I know he'll be down for that. You know Sam, he loves a good chance to talk about sport," she joked.

There was a comfortable silence between the two of them, while Faith watched the wind blow a pile of leaves around in the parking lot, and Angel sipped from his mug of blood.

"I really am glad it's worked out for you," he told her. "You and Sam. You seem to compliment each other well, like a perfect fit. Plus, now he has to put up with you and your mood swings."

"Hey!" Faith protested. "I do not have mood swings."

"Of course not."

"Anyway," she said, ignoring his sarcastic tone. "It's cold here, so I'm going to go crawl back into bed with - "

"Your better half," he teased.

"Keep it up, Angelcakes, and I'll beat you down."

"Scary."

"Shut up."

"Night, Faith."

"Night, Angel."

She hung up and then stood, carefully opening the door to the motel and closing it behind her. She navigated her way over to Sam's bed in the dark and dropped the blanket on the floor, then climbed into it, sliding under the covers and letting him pull her against his body as she got comfortable.

So as she leaned back against him, she thought about what Angel had said about them being a perfect fit, and she drifted off to sleep with a smile on her face.
