Faith took a deep breath as she walked over to the nurses station, looking a lot more together than she felt.
"May I help you?" the nurse's tag said Olivia.
"I'm Faith Davies," Faith said, using her old name. "I have an appointment with Dr Montgomery."
Olivia nodded, smiling pleasantly. "I'll just page her."
~*~*~*~
Derek and Mark walked in, jostling each other as they headed for the stairs.
"Trout fishing at 3am?" Mark teased. "That is the sign of a man who isn't getting laid."
"I like fishing," Derek retorted. "It's soothing."
"You know what's soothing?" Mark said, grinning. "Sex."
"You're a terrible human being and I am worse off for knowing you," Derek called as he changed directions straight off.
"You know I'm right!" Mark called back, leaning on the counter next to Faith and winking at Olivia.
Sam & Dean
Sam slid a protective arm around Faith's waist, pulling her in to him a little. Meanwhile, Dean watched from across the room where he sat on a steel bench.
Faith
Addison rounded the corner and rolled her eyes at the sight of Mark talking to Olivia.
"Miss Davies?" she asked Faith, holding her hand out. "I'm Dr Montgomery."
Faith shook her hand. "Thank you for seeing me on such short notice."
Addison smiled warmly. "Not a problem. Let's get you admitted, then. You're the father?"
Sam & Dean
"Yes," Sam nodded, Dean watching on like a hawk.
He took Faith's hand and looked her in the eye.
"It's ok if you'd rather do this alone," he offered tentatively.
Dean cleared his throat, but Sam didn't budge.
Faith
"You can stay with her until it's time to go in," Addison said to Sam. "I have to do a preliminary exam first."
Faith looked at Sam. "It's up to you."
Sam & Dean
Sam finally glanced back at Dean, who was doing his best to look persistent, before turning back to Addison and nodding.
"Ok, sure," he breathed, feeling as nervous as he looked.
Faith
"Alright," Addison said, smiling at the pair. "Just this way then."
Faith glanced at Sam before following the redhead to the private room that had been booked.
Sam & Dean
Sam followed cautiously, keeping his eye out for anyone that might... get in the way, so to speak. But his senses were cold.
Dean waited until they were out of sight, then grabbed a women's magazine and sat back to... read.
Faith
Once Faith was in a gown and on the bed, Addison snapped on the gloves.
"So, how did you find Dr McCoy? I wasn't aware he had a practice at the moment," Addison said, gently pushing Faith's knees further apart.
"He doesn't," Faith said, relaxing slightly. "Hank's a good friend."
Addison smiled faintly. "He is. I did my residency alongside him, years and years ago. But he's probably changed a lot since then."
Faith smiled wryly, thinking of his mutation. "Yeah, probably."
Addison frowned slightly as Alex entered, late, as usual. "Miss Davies, this is a teaching hospital, do you mind if my intern does the ultrasound?"
"Go for it," Faith shrugged.
"Karev," Addison said, standing up to help him with the equipment. "You're late."
"I told you," Alex answered quietly. "I don't do vagina. Not as a doctor, anyway."
Sam
Sam stood beside the bed, reaching down to hold Faith's hand as he watched on anxiously.
Faith
Faith looked up at Sam and squeezed his hand lightly.
"Ok," Alex said, lifting Faith's gown carefully and squeezing some of the warmed gel onto her pelvis. "Let's see how we're doing here."
Addison nodded her approval, letting Alex do what he was meant to, guiding him when he paused in uncertainty.
Faith kept her eyes on Sam, not wanting to look at the monitor for fear of changing her mind.
"Right," Addison said, after a long moment of silence. "Everything seems in order for this afternoon."
Sam
Sam had his eyes fixed on the screen, trying to work out the dark from the light.
"There'll be no complications?" he asked, eyes not moving.
Faith
"As with any minimally invasive procedure, there is always a risk of serious complications," Addison explained gently. "It's a very small potential though."
Faith nodded slightly. "How much pain will there be... after?"
"There's likely to be some degree of pain, but it does vary from each patient," Addison said, thinking back to her own experience. "Most women report that it's less than a toothache, although more than a headache."
"And there'll be bleeding."
"For several days, yes." Addison paused. "Are you both sure about this?"
Faith glanced at Sam. "Absolutely."
Sam
"Definitely," Sam insisted with a straight stare, not even nodding.
Faith
Addison re-entered the room, a little over an hour later, now dressed in pink scrubs.
"It's time," she said gently.
Faith nodded, then looked over at Sam. "Guess I'll see you after."
Sam
"You will," Sam promised.
He leant over and kissed her forehead, rubbed it with his thumb, and gave her hand a squeeze.
Then he walked backwards to the door, gave her a reassuring smile, and left the room.
Faith and Ty
Addison looked at Faith and smiled faintly. "Alright, let's get you down to the OR."
Faith nodded. "Alright."
~*~*~*~
Ty watched from his place in the corner, where he was dressed in scrubs, a surgical mask over his lower half of his face. He grinned slightly, seeing Faith laying on the table, unconscious as Addison started the procedure.
There was no way he was letting that baby go.
~*~*~*~
"She's bleeding out, dammit!" Addison cursed, hands steady as she worked to stop the bleeding.
"What does that mean?" Karev asked, standing to the right of Addison.
"It means that there was a lot more damage than I thought there would be."
Ty just grinned again, letting his own powers go to work.
~*~*~*~
"So?" Karev asked, as Addison let him close up. "What does this mean?"
"It means it was a success," she replied. "If you can call it that."
~*~*~*~
Faith lay on the hospital bed, a tube under her nose, helping her breathe. After Addison had explained everything to her, she'd had to give her something for the pain.
Addison sighed, watching her for a second, before going to find Sam to talk to him.
Sam & Dean
Sam was relentlessly pacing the hall, Dean's eyes moving backwards and forwards with him.
"Dude," Dean got his attention, nodding in Addison's direction when she appeared.
Sam turned, and walked briskly over to her.
"So?"
Addison
"So, there were complications," Addison said, pulling the scrub cap from her head, letting her hair fall onto her shoulders.
"The trauma Faith suffered from her first termination caused substantial damage to her lining, and it caused a bleed during this procedure."
Sam
"And?" Sam's face paled instantly.
Addison
"And she's fine," Addison assured him. "The termination was successful, but she will be in a considerable amount of pain for a few days and the bleeding will be severe, especially with the unforeseen complications."
Addison paused.
"We were lucky she's a strong fighter, a lot of women might not have pulled through that," she said. "The damage to her uterus was considerable, as I have said. There is no longer a possibility of Faith being able to have any children, and in fact, it would be a fight during childbirth. Her body cannot handle the stress."
Sam
Sam gulped as he digested the last piece of information, before shaking his head as if trying to forget.
"Can I see her?!" he asked.
Faith
"Of course," Addison said, leading the way. "She'll be groggy, and I've advised that she doesn't do anything too physical."
She paused just outside of Faith's room.
"It would be my recommendation for you to take a wheelchair for her, just for a week at least."
Faith was stirring slightly.
Sam
"Done," Sam nodded, opening the door and walking through.
He went straight to her side, resuming his position with his hand holding hers.
Faith
Faith's eyes opened slowly and she looked at Sam through heavy lidded eyes.
"Hey," she said groggily.
Sam
"Hey," Sam smiled, kissing her hand.
"You were great."
Faith
Faith smiled weakly.
"I just... lay there."
Sam
"But you rocked it," Sam teased lightheartedly.
Faith and Ty
"Whatever," Faith said, smiling at him. "You're a weirdo."
~*~*~*~
Ty walked through the main doors of Seattle Grace Hospital, whistling happily to himself.
