We Are Better

Written by Nessa

Faith and Buffy

Faith woke up with a start, stretching her arms out. She sat up, realising that Sam wasn't next to her as he had been before.

"Missing someone?" Buffy sat on the edge of her bed, arms folded across her chest.

"Not anymore," Faith replied sarcastically. "Now the party can get started."

"How could you let them do it?" Buffy asked.

"You wanna vague that up for me a little more?" Faith replied, raising an eyebrow. "Let who do what?"

"You didn't know." Buffy almost smiled at that.

"Guess not. Care to fill me in?"

"Spike and Dean's impromptu vengeance gig," Buffy replied.

"What are you talking about?" Faith looked confused.

"They killed that woman. Spike said he couldn't let you do it. Said it would destroy your little soul."

Faith stared at the blonde in disbelief. "If they hadn't done it, I would've."

"Oh good, and undo all of the progress that Angel thinks he's made with you?" Buffy's lip curled in disgust. "I knew he wasn't right to put so much into you."

"You can't stand it, can you?" Faith said. "That Angel and I understand each other."

"I'm sorry I can't be a part of your club," Buffy snapped. "I've never killed anyone."

"Look, I missed the mark before, and I'm sorry about those guys, I really am," Faith defended. "But it happens! And how many people do you think I've saved by now, thousands? And didn't we both stop the world from ending? Because in my book, that puts us in the plus column."

"Slayers help people! It doesn't mean we can do whatever we want!" Buffy argued.

"You're still not seeing the big picture, B. It was always your problem. One of them," Faith continued. "Something made us different. We're warriors. Built to kill."

"To kill demons! But it does not mean that we get to pass judgement on people like we're better than everybody else!" Buffy protested.

"We are better," Faith said simply. "That's right. Better. People need us to survive. In the balance, nobody's gonna cry over some random bystander who got caught in the crossfire."

"I am," Buffy replied.

"Well, that's your loss."
