Friday rolled her eyes as she put her sais on the ground.
"Happy now?" she asked sarcastically.
The police officer gave her a look as he walked over.
"Interesting weapons you have there. What are you doing with them drawn this late at night?"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
"Try me."
"Hunting vampires."
"Funny."
"Told you that you wouldn't believe me," Friday smirked.
"Day," Eron said patiently, before turning to the man in blue. "Would you like to see our permits?"
"Sure."
Eron put his bag down on the ground and the officer watched carefully, one hand on his holister as Eron pulled his wallet out. He opened it and pulled out a card, which he handed over.
"ISD?" the officer frowned. "Never heard of it."
"I'd be surprised if you had," Eron replied. "It's unlikely there's more than a thousand of these worldwide. We were assured they were valid in Australia though, so maybe you should run it through your system and check."
"Here's mine too," Friday said, handing her card over.
The officer compared the two skeptically before handing them over to his partner.
"Stupid vampire," Friday muttered.
"Not so stupid, really," Eron observed. "He obviously figured out that he couldn't take on both of us, so..."
"You realise, of course, that this means war."
"I thought we already were?"
Friday chuckled and the officer frowned at the exchange.
"Can you still sense him?"
"Yeah. Bet he's really enjoying the show."
"Weird. You think he would have run off by now. Y'know, get as much difference between us as possible?"
Friday shrugged and here eyes scanned in the direction she could sense the vampire.
"Sticking to the vampire story, huh?" the police officer asked.
"It's the truth," Eron replied.
"Uh huh, yeah sure."
"Oh!" Friday exclaimed.
The vampire had come out of hiding and was making his way to the police car.
"He wouldn't dare..." Eron breathed.
The officer frowned and (a little uncertain as to whether he should turn his back on these two psychos), risked a glance behind him. He saw a man closing the distance to the open car door.
"Hey, get away from there!"
The vampire ignored them. As a result of not giving that cheaky wave and smirking like he had been tempted to, he didn't see Friday reform the sai-stake she had previously dissolved into her clothes. Nor did he see it flying through the air towards him. So he had a brief moment of susprise when it hit him before dissolving into dust.
The police officer swore. His partner wasn't exactly clean-mouthed either.
"Nice shot," Eron said to Friday."
"Why, thank you."
The officer shot them an unreadable look as his partner got out of the car. He looked at the sai-stake sitting in amongst a pile of dust nervously as he made his way over.
"It, uhh... it checks out..." he said tentatively. "What was that thing?"
"Vampire," Friday replied.
"Uhh... right..." the officer shook his head, a little unnerved.
"They check out?" the other officer asked.
His partner nodded.
"Entitles them to carry their weapons of choice regardless of whether it's legal in this country or not for the purpose of conduction their duties as members of the ISD."
"What is the ISD?"
"Didn't say."
"International Supernatural Defence," Eron replied.
"Hence the vampire," Friday added. "Can we go now?"
The officer looked at his partner, who nodded.
"What about that guy? She just killed him."
"Please," Friday scoffed. "You can't have me arrested for murder. He was a vampire. How many humans do you know turn to dust when you throw a piece of wood at them?"
"She, uhh, she does have a point."
"Yeah, I think we should just let that one go."
"Why thank you," Friday said. "And as an Australian citisen I also thank you for being to diligent in your duties. Maybe I have my sai-stake back now?"
