Thick As Thieves

Written by Nessa and AiMsTeR

Bela

Bela giggled as she was spun around on the dancefloor.

"Tobias your eyes are dazzling," her thick accent drawled.

"Why thankyou Cassandra. But yours are positively hypnotising."

"So it's not just my diamonds?" Bela teased.

"Only the diamonds in your eyes," Tobias leant in.

"Perhaps we should take this someplace... warmer," Bela smiled seductively, turning away from his kiss but wrapping her fingers around his tie.

"Ooh, I like the way you think."

"Do you have a car?"

"My Jaguar is parked out front."

Bela bit her bottom lip playfully as the taller, handsome man escorted her out of the club. Upon collecting her belongings from the main counter, she wrapped a shawl around her shoulders and carefully petted the side of her bag to make sure her gun was still there. When Tobias opened the car door for her and she stepped in, she pulled it out ready for him to enter the driver's seat.

Once he was in, he glanced across at her... and her gun.

"I'm sorry Tobias, you seem like a very nice man," Bela said almost sarcastically, "but I really need your car."

"My car?" Tobias frowned.

"Yes, the thing we're sitting in," Bela nodded as if she were talking to a first grader.

Gwen

Gwen strolled up to the car, and rested one hand on the roof. She knocked on the window and smiled charmingly at the occupants.

"Afraid both of you are gonna have to get out."

Bela

Bela hid the gun as Tobias frowned.

"What is going on here?!" he demanded.

"Calm down honey," Bela insisted, putting a palm on his arm to show him she had nothing to do with this newcomer.

"Calm down?!"

Tobias opened the car door, throwing the keys back in and slamming it.

"Have the damn car!" he shouted, walking off in a huff.

Bela eyebrows rose and she pouted.

"Not as I imagined, but okay..." she shrugged happily, scooting across to the driver's seat.

Gwen

Gwen swiftly slipped into the car, taking the seat Bela had just vacated.

"Sorry honey, but I need this car."

Bela

Bela laughed, starting the car.

"I don't think so. Either get out, or I'll drop you in the middle of nowhere on my way back to Queens," she offered.

Gwen

Gwen held her arm out, letting electricity spark from it.

"Tempting, but no. You're going to get out, or I'm going to fry you."

Bela

"Go ahead," Bela encouraged.

"Have fun driving a stinky corpse through the heart of Los Angeles. And of course, the electricity will short circuit the vehicle electronics, so have fun taking the car - and its contents - too."

Gwen

"Nothing personal," Gwen said, shrugging. "But I just need something from the car."

She paused.

"I'll make you a deal. You let me get what I need, and then you can have the car. And neither of us will die. Sound good, peaches?"

Bela

"Sorry," Bela apologised, again sarcastically.

"But I'm on a contract, and I need to deliver the car intact with all on board properties. Peaches."

Gwen

"Well, it just so happens, that I've been contracted to take this car."

Gwen glanced at her.

"So, stalemate, for now, I'm afraid. At least, until one of us dies."

Bela

Bela tilted her head, then put the car into gear and drove out into the street, heading North.

Gwen

"Oh good," Gwen said, leaning back.

"You're driving. And heading in the right direction. This job is easier than I thought it was gonna be."

Bela

"You actually made my job a lot easier," Bela mused.

"Tobias Greenwood was going to be a hardcase util he thought it was two to one. Not that he knew the significance of this car. I take it you know all about the mercury component?"

Gwen

"What I was hired for, sweets."

Gwen tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Wasn't expecting to run into another, but you know, hazard of the biz."

Bela

"Oh really," Bela paused thoughtfully.

"Your employer's name isn't Leischterson by chance, is it?"

Gwen

"Yeah..."

Gwen's eyes narrowed.

"Son of a bitch."

Bela

"I knew that scum would doublecross me," Bela's teeth grinded as she pulled the car over.

She rummaged through her purse for her knife, popped the trunk open, and got out.

Gwen

Gwen opened the car door and watched Bela.

"Think we got off on the wrong foot, sweetie," she said, extending her hand to Bela. "No shocks, I promise. I'm Gwen."

Bela

Bela hesitated as she lifted the trunk, swapped hands with the knife, and shook Gwen's.

"Alexis Lane," she introduced herself, before getting back to work.

She pulled up the carpet in the trunk of the car, found the toolbox, and broke into it.

"Son of a..." she cut herself off, seeing nothing but car tools.

"This whole expedition was a gross waste of time. I could have been selling ouija boards on the West coast and gotten more out of it tonight," she fumed.

Gwen

"Hmmm."

Gwen's eyes narrowed.

"Think we should pay the boss a visit, don't you?"

Bela

"I'll book us some flights," Bela smiled, taking out her phone and dialling.

Gwen

Gwen grinned, leaning on the top of the car.

"Someone's gonna get scr-ewed," she sang.
