You Missed Me

Written by Nessa and AiMsTeR

Faith

Faith handed the keys to the Wolfram and Hart employee she'd organised the pick up with.

"Thanks for this," she said, sliding her sunglasses on top of her head. "Did you get here alright?"

"Yeah," he replied, gesturing to the other car that was parked a few metres away, the driver tapping on the steering wheel absently, head bopping to unheard music. "You wanted to exchange bags?"

Faith nodded. "Yeah, I got Cordy to pack my stuff."

The pair exchanged duffel bags.

"Just dump it with Angel, he'll take care of it."

"Ok," he replied. "Well... I should hit the road."

"Cool, thanks for this," Faith told him. She watched for a moment, waiting until he and the other car had reached the exit of the parking lot, before lifting her bags and walking to the motel room.

Sam

Sam was just leaving the motel oom, heading out to get a bite to eat, when he saw Faith walking towards him.

"Hey," he looked a little confused, "where were you?"

Faith

"Had to drop something off."

Faith touched his arm lightly.

"Hey, wait up a sec, I'll dump my stuff and come with. Unless... you're enjoying Sam time?"

Sam

"Nooo... but I'm about to enjoy food time," Sam mused.

"Dean's taken off to catch up with someone and I'm just headed out to get lunch."

Faith

"Ok," Faith said, pulling him back in the direction of the room. "Let me dump this stuff down and we can enjoy food time together."

She paused.

"And I have a surprise."

Sam

"Oh yeah?" Sam's eyebrows rose, letting himself be pulled.

He waited by the door, leaning on the frame as she went inside.

Faith

Faith left her bags by the side of the bed, then quickly came back out, closing the door behind her and sliding her hand into Sam's.

"Yeah, and I think you'll enjoy it."

Sam

Sam grinned as he intertwined fingers with her.

"Is this surprise nearby, or is it not physical?" he fished.

Faith

"It's kind of physical, I guess," Faith replied, thinking about it for a second.

"Don't get excited, it's not like... a thing. It's more because I can't stand to see those sad puppy eyes all the time."

Sam

"When was the last time I looked sad?" Sam asked incredulously, swining their hands as they walked.

Faith

"Every time I get into my car," Faith teased, nudging him gently.

"I see it. The tears. It's ok, Sam, I know you love me."

Sam

"Maybe I do," Sam mused, not looking her in the eye.

"But it's not the end of the world. We've got the motel rooms... and lunch time."

Faith

"Aww."

Faith glanced at him and decided to put him out of his misery before they even reached the cafe.

"Well, relax. As of... hmmm, ten minutes ago? I'm officially carless again."

Sam

Sam looked at her curiously.

"You seem way too excited about that. You didn't total it and barely make it out alive by chance, did you?" he asked.

Faith

Faith laughed and shook her head.

"No, I called in a favour and got some guys at Wolfram and Hart to come pick it up."

She paused, avoiding eye contact.

"I mean, I like Faith time. But... I like being smooshed against you in the car more."

Sam

"Awww," Sam teased, giving her a hug mid-walk.

"And I'm glad. That you didn't total it. It was a nice car."

Faith

"Yeah, it's Spike's favourite. Which is why I took it. So he couldn't have it."

Faith paused.

"We have a complex relationship."

Sam

"I noticed," Sam nodded as they reached the nearby diner.

He opened the door for her and let her lead the way inside.

"I take it Dean doesn't know?"

Faith

"No. So, if it's a problem... I'll work that out later."

Faith shrugged.

"Guess I can always get the car back, no big deal."

Sam

"I sincerely doubt it'll be a problem," Sam assured, closing the door and going to sit down.

"If anything he'll probably rejoice at the chance to give us more crap."

Faith

Faith reluctantly let go of Sam's hand and slid into the seat across from him.

"We can loudly declare our love and annoy him."

Sam

"Something like that," Sam mused, looking up at the menu.

"Feel like anything in particular today?" he sighed.

Faith

Faith shrugged.

"Something not deep fried."
