Mummies

Fred peered at the sarcophagus carefully, glasses balancing on the end of her nose.

"I couldn't find any invoice on it. I thought maybe you went crazy on eBay," Knox said.

"No. No eBay. After that commemorative plate incident, I'm living clean." Fred smiled. "Did you run a spectral analysis?"

"Yeah. Everything's bouncing off it, which doesn't thrill me." Knox shrugged.

"Yeah. Let's not be hasty about opening it. It's probably just a mummy," Fred replied.

"Mummies can be a lot more trouble than you think. And you're seeing Wesley now," Knox said, turning to her.

"Uh... Oh. OK. That's not connected to mummies in some way..." Fred looked uncomfortable.

"No, I just wanted to get it out there. And I'm totally good with it. I... I know that I've made... advances," Knox replied.

"I'm sorry," Fred told him.

"No, I... I didn't want to make you uncomfortable. I love working with you, and that's plenty for me," Knox said, nodding.

"You're sweet."

"You want me to get our HazMat's on this baby?" Knox asked, changing the subject.

"Yeah, and see about where it came from," she answered.

Knox stepped out of the lab, while Fred bent a little to examine the crystals on the surface of the sarcophagus. She reached out and touched one, leaning a little closer when an iris opened up.

A puff of something blew in her face and she coughed, choking slightly.

"What happened?!" Knox rushed back into the lab.

"I don't know. It opened, and there was air..."

"Are you ok?" he asked.

"Uh, I think so. That was odd," Fred replied.
