The Cruciamentum

Written by Nessa

Faith

Faith opened the door to the old boardinghouse carefully, bending slightly to slip a stake in the doorway, so the door wouldn't close behind her, alerting anyone to her being there.

"Xander?" she called softly, one hand gripping a cross, the other carrying a small bag full of weapons.

She inched inside a little further, slowly making her way through the house. She jumped slightly, hearing the door click shut and a lock turned, and she ran back in the direction of it, pounding on it frantically when it wouldn't open.

"Xander?" she tried again, then let out a surprised gasp when a vampire appeared from the other room.

"Why did you come to the dark of the woods?" he asked, slowly walking towards her. He grabbed the bag from her roughly, and peered inside. "To bring all these sweets to grandmother's house?"

He dropped the bag and pulled Faith close to him, gripping her tightly by the arms.

"Uhhh!" Faith cried out, lifting up the cross in her hand.

The vampire let go of her in surprise, then smiling evilly, he grabbed her hand and pushed the cross against his chest.

"Oh, oh... no, a little bit lower," he said, nudging her hand down. "Oh yes. That's the spot. Thank you, very much."

Faith pulled away and ran past him, frantically searching for another escape. She found the back door and opened it, finding that someone had bricked it up completely. She noted that the windows had much of the same treatment.

"I'm trapped in here," she muttered to herself.

"Oh Slayeeeeeeeeer?" the vampire called out.

Faith glanced around again, and ran out through the opposite entrance to the kitchen. She quietly went up the stairs.

Faith

"Pills, need my pills!" the vampire yelled from down the hall.

Faith tilted her head, looking at the bottle of pills on the table inside the room. She grabbed them and slipped them in her pocket, looking for a place to hide as she heard the vampire coming in her direction.

She spotted the laundry chute and opened it, just as the vampire burst through the door behind her.

"My pills!" he roared.

Not getting the chance to think twice, Faith slid down the laundry shoot, landing in a heap at the bottom, groaning slightly from the fall.

Faith

Faith jumped as the vampire crashed through the laundry door, sending it flying off it's hinges.

"Where are they? Where are they?!" he shouted, before spotting them on the bench next to her.

Faith inched away from him, ready to make a run for it, as he unscrewed the cap from the bottle and shook a handful of pills into his hand. He put them in his mouth and washed them down with the glass of water that had been sitting next to them.

"You don't seem to understand your place in all of this. Do you have any idea..." the vampire looked down at the glass in his hand. "Oh my... what have you... my pills!"

Faith shook her head, silently pulling out the now empty vial of holy water from her pocket.

The vampire dropped the glass, backing away from her as he began to shake violently.

"No... no!" he cried, smoke beginning to billow out through his clothes.

"Afraid so," Faith replied, watching coolly.

The vampire screamed loudly, before crumbling to ashes from the inside out.
