How do you live with yourself?

Written by Nessa

Angel

"Well," Angel said, pulling up outside Jill's house. "This is it."

Nina's eyes were focused on her niece, who was drawing on the sidewalk with chalk, her mother supervising.

"She's a really good artist," she said quietly.

"Oh. My refrigerator's always available if she's looking to show," Angel offered.

"How do you live with it? Knowing that you've... killed people?" Nina asked, thinking back to the incidents of the previous night.

"Nina, they were going to eat you for dinner," Angel reminded her.

"I just wanna wake up, you know?"

"At some point you'll be at the grocery store or with Amanda, and the whole werewolf thing, it'll just be a part of who you are."

"Next you're gonna tell me you actually like being a vampire," Nina said.

"Well, being nearly indestructible is cool," Angel shrugged.

"I can't tell them," she murmured.

"Maybe, maybe not. That part's not covered in the manual." Angel glanced over at her. "They're waiting for you."

"You don't ever think about letting go, disappearing somewhere?" Nina asked.

"Look, if you separate yourself from the ones you love, the monster wins."

"You make it sound simple."

"Well, it's not."

Nina hesitated. "See you next month."
