"You wanted to see me?" Tanya asked as she entered Leroy's office.
Leroy smiled grimly ans turned the monitor.
"Security brought this to my attention about an hour ago. It's... well, you'd better see it for yourself."
Tanya nodded and sat down to watch. Footage of Hugh came up - he was sitting in one of the garden centres and a stranger walked up to him.
"Huulion, right?"
Hugh looked up, a little startled.
"Y-yes?"
The man sat down next to him.
"It's nice up here, isn't it?"
"I think so."
"So... you've living with Tanya, eh?"
"Yes..." Hugh answered, frowning. "What's this about?"
The man leant forward and said so quietly that the sensors barely picked it up: "I'm with the SPM."
Hugh drew in his breath sharply.
"You too?"
Tanya frowned.
The man nodded sagely.
"You've just come out of rehab?"
"They caught me after, y'know."
"Yes."
"So... Tanya thinks I could be a Ga'Revali Master."
"Oh!"
"No one back at the base can train me so..."
"Yes, yes of course. So you've... lured them into a false sense of security, as it were, eh? So you can get further training?"
"Uhh, yeah, something like that."
Tanya's frown deepened.
"Hmm, good, good," the man replied. "I'll let them know you're safe and well and everything's in hand then."
"You... you can contact them?" Hugh asked, his face lighting up.
"Of course."
"Can you... can you get a message to my Dad?"
"Don't see any reason why not. But not right now. Prepare something and have it on you at all times. I'll meet up with you again when it's safe."
"Safe?"
"You are on probation from the rehab centre after all, Huulion. They're not just going to let you run around the station unmonitored."
Hugh nodded and the man left. Tanya shook her head.
"We've known he was a spy for the SPM for sometime now," Leroy explained smugly. "He has a jammer - or thinks he has a jammer, rather."
"Ahh," Tanya nodded slowly. "Does Wayne know yet?"
"I haven't told him, but I'm going to have to. You know that."
"Of course," Tanya conceeded. "I wasn't going to ask you not to."
She sighed and shook her head.
"I just... I've been in his head - had to to teach him - I never saw anything that suggested that..." she shook her head again.
"You can't expect the boy just to throw off a lifetimes worth of beliefs, Tanya."
"I know, and I haven't done that. But I didn't find any sense of subterfuge, y'know? None of this false sense of security stuff."
"Could he have hidden it from you?"
"In theory, yes. In practice... I don't believe that his understanding of his powers is that fine yet. Maybe from lesser telepaths."
"Hmm. Well, sorry to be the bearer of bad news."
Tanya smiled ruefully.
"Just... thanks for telling me before Wayne."
Leroy chuckled.
