Wrong Turns

Written by Nessa and AiMsTeR

Faith

Faith yawned, lifting her head from Sam's shoulder.

"We're so lost," she put in. "Seriously."

Sam

"We're so not," Sam denied, glancing in the rear view mirror at his sleeping brother in the back.

"We're just probably not anywhere that a GPS could locate us in..."

Faith

"Honey?" Faith said, looking over at him. "I think that's lost."

She glanced out the window.

"Why don't we pull over and ask for directions or something?"

Sam

"Ah... because we're in the middle of nowhere and there's no one to ask?" Sam suggested, glancing over at her before returning his eyes to the road.

Faith

"Screw that."

Faith pulled out her phone and activated the GPS function on it.

"Um. Ok. Yeah. We're off the map. Cool."

She watched the sun sinking slowly in the distance.

Sam & Dean

Sam raised an eyebrow as Dean stirred, slowly opening his eyes.

"Don't tell Dean," he insisted.

"Don't tell me what?" Dean grunted, moving his sunglasses onto the top of his head, "that you got us lost?"

Faith

"Holy crap!" Faith exclaimed, the car jerking on the road.

"What the hell?"

Dean & Sam

"Shit!" Sam slammed the brakes on.

No sooner had the car gotten to a halt was Dean out of it and on the dark road.

"F@$%!" they heard him scream.

Sam glanced at Faith, then jumped out of the car with him.

"What? What is it?" he asked cautiously.

"Look at the tyres!" Dean spat in between curses, "I don't have four f@#$ing spare tyres!"

Faith

Faith got out of the car last, noting that her phone had no reception at all.

She walked a few metres behind the impala on the road and bent down, poking at the culprit.

"Hey," she called, gesturing for them to come over. "This wasn't an accident. Someone put this here."

Barbed wire was spread across the road.

Sam & Dean

Sam stared over at her as Dean made his way closer.

"Great. Just great," he fumed.

"Whoever it is better having a bulletproof vest lying around. Or a damn neck brace that'll stop a machete. No one screws with my car!"

"Dean-"

"Sam! No!"

Sam closed his mouth with a sigh, eyeing Faith dejectedly.

Faith

Faith straightened up and brushed her hands off on her pants, making her way over to Sam. She rubbed his back gently.

"Alright, look, first things first. Let's move the car so it's not in the middle of the road. And then... then I don't know, I'll go search out help."

Dean & Sam

"Whay the hell did we take this shortcut anyway?" Dean glared at the ground as he walked back to the car.

He opened the trunk and started gathering some things. Some weapons, provisions, and a warm change of clothes.

"Dean..." Sam began carefully, walking over to the trunk as well, "you're not going out there alone."

"Someone has to say with the car," Dean knew his voice was louder than intended.

Faith

Faith sighed softly, and reached in the car for her bag. She opened it and pulled a long sleeved shirt over her tank top. She paused, then grabbed a jacket and put it on, pausing to take some weapons.

"I'll go with him."

Sam & Dean

"Are you sure?" Sam asked.

"It's not up for debate Sammy. We're going," Dean still had obvious bite in his voice.

Sam put his hands up in surrender.

"Fine. Just... Sunrise is the deadline. You know what I'll do."

Dean zipped up the bag and threw it over his shoulder before closing the trunk.

"See you soon Sammy," he looked over his shoulder as he walked away.

Sam turned to Faith.

"Watch out for him, ok?" he looked worried, "he doesn't tend to go for rational when he's like this."

Faith

Faith looked up at him. "Will do. Worse comes to worse, I'll just knock him out."

She stood on her tiptoes to give him a quick kiss before jogging after Dean, catching up with him quickly.

Sam & Dean

Sam watched after them, chewing his bottom lip nervously. With a sigh he got back into the car and settled down for a quick nap.

Dean marched along with the duffel still over his shoulder, his other hand holding his phone as he checked the reception. He barely noticed that Faith was with him, but acknowledged her with a quick glance as he randomly scanned their surroundings.

"So that wire was an obvious plant, right?" he asked, as if to verify that he hadn't imagined it.

Faith

"Yeah, I'd say so."

Faith brushed some hair from her eyes.

"Obviously there's something out here. Hopefully something killable."

Dean

"I wouldn't put it past a wendigo to use that sort of tactic," Dean shrugged.

"But unless it's hybernating, it should have shown itself by now."

Faith

"Could be human though," Faith pointed out. "Crazy deranged redneck humans, but... well... I think I summed it up with redneck."

She shrugged.

Dean

"Yeah, well..." Dean shrugged.

"I don't know about you, but I don't think I'll be partaking in a rerun of Deliverance anytime soon. Sammy on the other hand, been there done that."

Faith

"Eh, you stay alive long enough and you get to partake in a bit of everything. Kinks and vanilla."

Faith pulled her jacket a little tighter around her body.

Dean

"Very true," Dean smirked, adjusting the bag so it was hanging from his shoulder and not over his back.

"But you only screw up in the same fashion once."

Faith

"Mmm," Faith agreed. "But you screw in the same fashion a lot. And then sometimes you change it up."

Dean & Sam

"We need to get you more white shirts," Dean insisted.

Sam waited until her hands looked mostly clean, then put the cap back on the bottle a stowed it away in the car again.

"Have you got everything?" he asked Dean.

"Pretty sure. Just grab your machete," he insisted.

Sam did so, then closed the trunk.

Dean

"Please tell me that's an invitation," Dean instinctively played his puppy eyed look.

"Because the amount of sexual tension I'm carrying around is getting hard to handle here..."

Faith

"Yeah," Faith said, giving him a sidelong glance. "I remember how hard it was. To handle."

She raked a hand through her hair.

"But I'm sorta doing this... be loyal to Sam thing."

Dean

"Just my luck," Dean sighed.

"The one girl my brother steals from me and not the other way around is the only one that doesn't want me back."

Faith

Faith paused, feeling awkward all of a sudden.

"Well, you know, devil's threesome. But you guys wouldn't want that," she said, keeping it light.

Dean

"Not exactly. Although I couldn't count on two hands how many people have thought we were a gay couple," Dean admitted.

Faith

"Well, not to make the situation worse, but I think Wincest would be hot."

Faith grinned slightly.

"Although, I could be biased as I have seen both of you naked. And have experienced the sex first hand. Mmm. Wincest."

Dean

"Win... Wincess-" Dean looked confused for a moment before it clicked.

"Oh. Oh. Gross. Now I need something to get that picture out of my head. Time to picture you naked."

He started humming.

Faith

Faith snickered.

"I was going to flash you for a second there, but decided against it."

Dean

"Damnit," Dean snapped his fingers in fake disgust.

"So close!"

Faith

"Too bad you never took photos, huh?" Faith asked, laughing.

Dean

"Who are you kidding?" Dean almost snorted.

"But yeah, I lost most of them anyway."

Faith

Faith grinned.

"Hmmm, stealthy nude photos. Should I be worried that Sam might be doing the same thing?"

Dean

"Who Sammy? Nah. He feels guilty surfing the internet for porn," Dean rolled his eyes.

Faith

Faith grinned slightly, then shivered from the cold.

"Do you honestly think there's going to be anything out here?"

Dean

"We're bound to find something or someone if we walk long enough," Dean shrugged.

Faith

"Yeah, I guess."

Faith rubbed her neck.

Dean

"Speaking of," Dean said softly, pointing through the nearby trees to where he could see a faint light glowing.

Faith

"Let's just hope they're normal."

Faith changed her course of direction for the lights.

Dean

"What's normal?" Dean scoffed, keeping up with her fluidly.

He held the grip of his pistol just in case as he moved through the thrush.

Faith

"Cookies. I like cookies. I think they're normal."

Faith walked easily under the low hanging branches, then stopped short as they came out into a clearing where an old cabin stood.

Dean

Dean stood at the edge with her, then pulled his pistol out and clicked the safety off.

"Let's go see if anyone's home, shall we?" he said before walking straight up to the cabin.

Faith

Faith followed along behind, noting the yard full of old rusted out cars.

"This so won't end well."

Dean

"When does it ever?" Dean threw a glance over his shoulder as he jumped up to the porch.

He went straight to the front door and knocked.

"Hello?!" he called out, "police! Open up!"

Faith

After a few minutes of no one answering, Faith looked at Dean and pushed the door open.

"Huh. Guess they're out."

Dean

"Yeah, I wonder where," Dean pulled a face as he stepped through the door.

He stopped when got a couple of feet in, looking around awkwardly.

"Not quite what I expected," he admitted, "a bit more... Benders than Farmer Roadkill."

Faith

Faith walked past him, nose wrinkling up as she went.

"Wicked gross," she muttered, looking into the kitchen.

Dean

Dean fished out his EMF meter, switching it on. Nothing came through. Disappointed, he returned it to his duffel.

"Next question is if they do it for sport or for meat," he said absently, following her through to the kitchen while stopping to inspect things on the way.

Faith

Faith opened the fridge and balked at the smell.

"Ugh, my guess? Meat."

Her ears pricked up at the sound of a truck driving up.

"And I don't really want to be eaten. Well... not in that way."

Dean

Dean groaned a little as the resulting mental image, quickly managing to snap himself back to reality at the sound of the truck doors closing.

"Okay, scat time," he said decidedly, walking back out to the livingroom.

Just in time to hear footsteps coming up the porch. Reaching behind him he grabbed Faith by the chest part of her shirt, and pulled her back into a closet with him.

Faith

Faith lost balance slightly, managing to close the closet door in time. Her hand landed on Dean's crotch as she steadied herself.

Dean

Dean slapped his hand on top of hers, half unconsciously, as he listened for the intruders' footsteps.

He heard them come into the main room, dragging something heavy, and for a moment wondered what poor soul they were about to chop up. More importantly though, he tried to measure by footsteps how many of them were in the room.

Faith

Faith leaned forward, pulling her hand away from Dean as she noticed the tiny little ray of light coming from the keyhole of the door. She bent down and looked through it, tilting her head slightly to see more clearly.

She could roughly make out the shape and size of whoever - whatever - owned the house, but as for the number of them, it was unclear. Right now, it was looking like 3. Maybe 4.

Dean

Calculations complete, Dean waved his hand in front of Faith's eyes to get her attention and held up four fingers.

A moment later he heard one of them leave the room, and changed it to three. Then he heard the clanging of metal tools and cringed a little.

Faith

Faith made a face and moved back as much as she could in the tiny closet. She ended up half sitting on Dean.

She glanced at him as if to say 'let's just break out and kill them'.

Dean

Dean held up a finger as a sign to wait, listening as another of them left the room.

He hesitated, weighing the odds, then looked back at her. Holding two fingers up he indicated her and himself in turn, signalling two for each of them to take out.

Faith

"Five by five," Faith mouthed.

Never one for planning, she kicked the closet door open, sending it flying off it's hinges and hitting one of the things in the back. The other turned, and caught sight of the two intruders.

"Wicked gross," she said, kicking it in the face, ducking to dodge a blow.

Dean

Dean had followed her, knocking the one under the door unconscious before he spied the body they'd dragged in sprawled on a workbench.

"Sammy?!" he frowned, rushing over.

Letting his guard down for the moment, one of the intruders that had left the room had come back and hit him clear across the skull with a wooden stake. He went down with a loud thud, groaning as he tried to clear the stars from his eyes.

Faith

Faith turned, then ducked again, kicking behind her. She spun around, spying an axe on the table that had... Sam?!

Lifting the axe, she sliced clear through the head of the one she'd been fighting, then she moved over to where Sam and Dean were. She jumped up onto the workbench, kicking the intruder, that had knocked Dean to the ground, in the head.

Dean

Dean finally managed to sit up again, and straight away pulled himself up to the workbench.

"Sammy?" he frowned, shaking his brother's shoulder.

He felt for a pulse, his face instantly brightening when he found it.

"Sammy?!" he said a little louder, finally able to pull himself to his feet.

Faith

The last intruder had come back into the room, and Faith jumped off the workbench, moving over to him and embedding the axe in his side. She tried to pull it out again, but he knocked her back.

Flipping to her feet, she punched him hard in the jaw, watching as he crumpled to the ground, unconscious.

Dean & Sam

"Come on Sasquatch," Dean slapped Sam's cheeks, trying to bring him around.

Sam coughed suddenly, making his brother jump, then groaned.

"About time!" Dean said, slapping him again for good measure.

"Ow!"

"Don't do that to me again," Dean scowled as Sam finally managed to open his eyes.

Faith

Faith watched the brothers, smiling faintly, then moved towards them, simply stepping on the unconscious thing on the floor to get there.

"Gotta motivate," she said, indicating the door.

Dean & Sam

"Why, is there more?" Dean asked worriedly.

Sam finally managed to sit up on the bench, rubbing his cheek with a groan.

Faith

"Not here, but I'm going to make an assumption that there are probably more out there. And we're still without a car and out of cell range."

Faith helped Sam gently.

"Are you ok?"

Dean & Sam

"What happened to my car?!" Dean demanded, grabbing Sam by the shirt.

"I don't know!" Sam insisted, "I was asleep, and I woke up... here."

"If they've done anything to my car..." Dean left the threat hanging, turning to leave the shack.

Faith

"Hey, hold up."

Faith grabbed the back of Dean's shirt, spinning him around and smacking him hard across the head.

"Alright. Now we can go."

She walked ahead.

Dean & Sam

"YEOW!" Dean yelled, holding his head as Sam hid a chuckle.

"What the hell was that for?!"

Faith

"Eh, hurt your brother, I hurt you."

Faith shrugged.

Dean & Sam

Dean looked back at Sam, who shrugged.

"I didn't even-" Dean cut himself off, shaking his head as he made for the door again.

"Move it, Sammy."

Sam rolled his eyes and slid down from the bench, stepping over the bloody remains of one of the bodies on the floor.

Faith

Faith jumped down the front steps of the porch, landing steadily on her feet. She looked around and spotted their truck.

"Bingo."

Dean & Sam

Sam appeared at the door as Dean joined her.

"What?" Dean asked, following her eyeline.

"Oh hell no, I'd rather walk."

Faith

"Really?"

Faith turned to look at him.

"Coz, the way I figure, there's like... you know... miles of bushland until we come across civilisation."

Dean & Sam

"The car wasn't that far away," Dean insisted, walking past her and into the trees to find the road they came from.

"But you don't even know if it's still there or not," Sam called after him.

Faith

"If, in fact, we get chased by those freaks again, I'm so blaming your brother," Faith said to Sam.

She made a face and started after Dean.

Sam

"Be my guest," Sam insisted, jogging after them until he caught up to Faith.

"Does he even know where he's going?" he leant in to ask.

Faith

"I don't know," Faith replied. "How is he with directions?"

She glanced over at him.

Sam

"Surprisingly good, actually. It's that whole marine upbringing thing," Sam shrugged.

Faith

"Oh good. Because I couldn't find my way out of a wet paper bag."

Faith grinned faintly, thinking about the amounts of times she'd gotten herself lost. And nearly killed.

Sam & Dean

"I'm sure you're not that bad," Sam insisted, keeping his eye on his brother so he couldn't get out of the line of sight.

Faith

"Ohoo, yeah. I am."

Faith stepped over a stick on the ground, slipping her hands into her pockets.

A rustling in the bushes up ahead caught her attention.

Dean & Sam

Dean froze, head to the right as his eyes and ears scanned his surroundings.

"Wild animal?" Sam's hand went to his machete, but he continued walking.

Faith

Faith paused, listening for a moment.

"Nope. Two legs. And... there's - "

She stopped, hearing the flick of a crossbow, quickly spinning around and catching a bolt of an arrow between the palms of her hands.

Dean & Sam

In an instant, Dean had his gun out and fired it. Sam had taken off to the right of where the shot had come from, and once Dean noticed where he'd gone he stepped over to the left.

Faith

Faith tilted her head, hearing another click, and then went to tackle Dean out of the way, not making it in time.

She looked at his leg for a second, eyes straining in the dark and nose picking up the scent of blood.

"Crap, can you walk?" she asked, pulling her jacket off, then her shirt and using it to tie around his leg.

Dean

"I'm fine!" Dean waved her off, puling himself to his feet again, "go get the son of a bitch!"

When Sam heard the second shot he fell down to his knees, fetching a lazer scope from one of his pant pockets and attaching it to his pistol. He used it to scope out anything in range, not seeing anything move.

Faith

Faith nodded and then darted off into the bushes, silently coming up behind one of them. She jumped on it's back and twisted it's neck, dropping to the ground.

She ducked under the axe just in time, letting out a yell as the thing grabbed her by the hair.

Sam & Dean

Sam managed to tack Faith's attacker in the shoulder, sending him backwards in recoil. A second shot to the skull put it out of commission for good.

Now aware that his position had been given away, he moved forward toward the main battle scene steadily and quickly. Dean, however, had limped to the closest tree and pulled out his machete, ready for the next attack on his part.

Faith

"Yeah, let's just walk it," Faith muttered to herself, picking up the axe from the ground.

She jumped aside quickly, just missing a knife in the face.

Dean & Sam

With a single swipe, Dean had beheaded one that had come at him from behind. Pausing to catch his breath, he shone his flashlight over where the action was.

Sam took out two more like they were sitting ducks at target practise, before finding himself back to back with Faith.

"So, there's a few more than we were prepared for," he said betwen breaths.

Faith

"Well, you know me, I just love a party."

Faith glanced at him for a second.

Sam

"Yeah, I know you," Sam mused, before firing a few more rounds and having to reload.

Dean took over when he saw his brother reloading, aim as steady as if he were fighting right beside them and not twenty feet away.

Faith

Faith started to say something back, then made a surprised noise as an arm reached down from a tree branch and pulled her upwards. She threw her head back, almost smiling as she heard the sickening crack of a nose breaking. Or what she assumed was a nose.

Dean & Sam

Dean saw it take her and aimed a shot right through its shoulder. Then he was momentarily distracted by two of them attacking Sam, and took the one he figured Sam couldn't take out, out.

"Come on, we must be running out of these things already?!" he shouted, annoyed.

Faith

Faith dropped to the ground and cracked her shoulders.

"Yeah," she said, pausing for a second to listen out for more. "If there are more, no doubt we can relive this fun again. But for now, I'm thinking we should get the hell out of here."

Sam & Dean

Sam stopped to listen for a moment as well, then started heading for Dean.

"She's right," hesaid to him once close enough.

"And what if there's more out there? We should just leave them for the next poor son of a bitch that comes down this road?" Dean scorned.

"We don't even know if there are anymore. And besides, we can come back in daylight," Sam pointed out. <>

Faith

"Plus, we still have to find out what kind of condition the car is in. We don't have tyres, after all."

Faith folded her arms over her chest, shivering lightly in the cool night air.

Dean & Sam

Dean cursed under his breath while Sam reloaded his gun again.

"Look, why don't you go back to the car, and I'll see if I can find cell range anywhere," Sam offered.

"And have me be the one dragged in and chopped up? Sure," Dean smiled sarcastically.

Faith

"Alright," Faith said, holding her hand up. "You guys go back to the car. I'll go find cell range."

She shrugged.

"There's less of a chance of them being able to take both of you. And I'm little and can hide easily. Plus, if I run into anyone out here, men are always more willing to help out girls. You know, if it's guys."

Dean & Sam

"Then you're the one dragged in and chopped up and we're none the wiser," Dean went on.

"Not helping Dean."

"Not caring Sam."

"Look, Faith and I can take care of ourselves. You're playing wounded. She's right, again."

Faith

"Ok, so, settled, yeah?"

Faith reached over and squeezed Sam's hand.

Dean & Sam

"You can look after yourself?" Dean hit at his brother again.

"Need I remind you..."

"Look, maybe between us we'll manage," Sam scorned.

He turned to Faith and leant in to kiss her.

"Be careful, ok?"

Faith

Faith touched Sam's cheek.

"Lifetime of practice."

She reached up and kissed him gently, then pulled back and checked to make sure she still had a weapon of some kind.

Sam & Dean

"Here," Sam offered her his machete, as Dean continued walking down the road.

Faith

"What a gentleman."

Faith grinned slightly, taking it from him.

"I'll come get you guys if I don't end up dead."

Sam

"That's the preferable outcome," Sam chuckled a little, taking her hand and squeezing it a little.

"You've got until sun up before I come looking, ok?"
