The Wall

Julie, Zac and Natalie

"Julie?"

Julie looked up at Zac from the dining room table.

"Hey Zac," she said, fluttering her eyelids at him.

"I've got someone I want you to meet," Zac said, and stepped into the dining room fully, with Natalie on his heels. "This is Natalie."

Julie frowned, wondering why Zac would decide to introduce her to his latest girlfriend, when she remembered that Natalie was the name of Taylor's wife. Still wondering about the introduction, Julie gave an insolent wave.

"Hey."

"Nat's Tay's wife," Zac replied, paused, then continued. "I guess I'll leave you two alone."

Natalie sat down next to Julie as Zac departed.

"So?" Julie demanded.

"So, hey," Natalie replied, wondering how to go about this. "I just thought, y'know, we should probably meet. Y'know, B'E and Tom being my Ezra's cousins and all..."

Julie raised her eyebrows. Natalie winced inwardly. Yeah, that was feasable. Fact is though, she had expected to feel some sort of turmoil coming from Julie, but she couldn't sense a thing.

"Umm, and I'm also an empathic healer."

"Oh, right, you're an alien too, huh?"

"Uhh, yes."

"What's empathic healing?"

"It's like physical healing, only it works on the empathic level. Spirit, soul, whatever you want to call it."

"Ahh, right okay, so Zac told you his theory about me being psycho and now he want you to fix me," Julie nodded. "Well, I don't need any healing. I'm fine."

Natalie took a chance and reached over to touch Julie's hand.

"I'm sure you - ahh!"

Natalie yelled and practically leapt out of her chair. Julie frowned at her.

"What the hell?"

Natalie stared at her. She had only touched her for a moment, but that was enough to see the wall that was preventing her from sensing Julie periphically. The wall was partially transparent and what she saw through it was an utter mess.

At getting no reply, Julie's eyes narrowed.

"You were trying to use your power on me huh?"

"Uhh..."

"I told you! I don't need any healing!" Julie shouted at her. "Get out! Go away and never, ever bother me again!"

Natalie's eyebrows raised as Julie started spouting off various insults a crude language and decided that retreat for now was probably the safest option.

"That seemed to go well," Zac said dryly.

"I've never see anything like it," Natalie replied, shaking her head.

She told him about the wall, and Zac frowned.

"Maybe that beauty spell I told you about?"

Natalie considered this and shrugged.

"It's possible. I know nothing about magic, so..." she shrugged.

Zac nodded.

"Anyway, at this point I don't think I'm going to be able to do anything for her. Not unless she let's me."

"And she won't let you, unless she realises she has a problem."

"Exactly."

"Catch 22, huh?"

"Yeah. Sorry."

"It's not your fault. Thanks for trying, anyway."

Natalie nodded and gave him a sympathetic smile.
