Curious vs Obsessed

Mulder and Scully

Mulder's eyes remained focused on the computer, even as the door opened slowly.

"What's up, Doc?" he asked.

Scully held the door open with one hand, briefcase in the other. "Have you been sitting in here all day?"

Mulder spun around in his chair, turning to face her. "Certainly not."

She raised an eyebrow.

"I left to go to the bathroom?" he offered.

Scully rolled her eyes good naturedly. "Am I to guess that you found something interesting?"

"It's a real doozy," he played along. "Actually, I've been going through some old documents that I'd gathered over the years. Frohike gave me some stuff years ago that I've been studying up on."

"Should I even ask?" Scully moved to the other chair and sat down, putting her briefcase on the floor next to her feet.

"A lot of it is vampire lore," Mulder replied, pausing when he saw her face. "But more interestingly, and something I've never come across before - "

"Here we go."

"A Vampire Slayer."

Scully blinked. "Sorry?"

"It makes sense though, when you think about it, Scully, that for as long as there have been vampires, there have been hunters - slayers - to kill them. One Slayer each generation, in fact, according to this information. All girls." Mulder looked more animated by the minute.

"Right," she said, leaning back in the chair. "So... you're proposing that there's one girl out there fighting a legion of vampires?"

"I admit it sounds sketchy - "

"Sketchy? Mulder, it sounds ridiculous. The thought of one girl out there fighting vampires - which, by the way, don't exist - but doing it alone? Why not recruit more to help you? You can't honestly be - "

Mulder grinned at her. "Hope you've got a clear schedule. We're flying out to New York tomorrow morning."

"Wait, what? Mulder! I have to work tomorrow and... what's in New York?"

"So I looked a bunch of this stuff up online, and there's a guy in New York who claims to train these vampire slayers. I just wanted to have a chat with him."

"Well, you're on your own, Mulder," Scully said, standing up. "This isn't my job anymore. It's not even your job anymore."

"I'm curious," he called after her.

"Obsessed," she threw back.
