If "mice" is the plural of "mouse" why isn't "hice" the plural of "house"?

Corinne and Annika

"So, did you get my email?" Corinne asked smugly over the phone.

"What? No 'hi how you doing'?" Annika responded.

"Nope. C'mon, did you get it?"

"Yes I did. And why you're house hunting when you have a wedding on the books..."

"Psh, wedding plans do not comsume my every waking moment. So... what do you think?"

"I don't really think I need an apartment above a shop front."

"Oh, c'mon, it'll be great!" Corinne replied. "You'll have an official address to send couriers to, you'll still get to hang with Brett, and you'll be close to us. I could even come over and help out too."

"Yeah, but the business doesn't really need a shopfront."

"Well, not right now, but there's no rule that says you can't sell our merchanise there, or CDs of our games, or even prepaid cards, or -"

"An internet cafe," Annika suggested, mulling it over.

"I was just about to suggest that," Corinne agreed.

"Have you had a premonition about this?" Annika asked suspiciously.

"I'm not even going to consider answering that question," Corinne replied with dignity. "It's not on mainstreet but that's what makes it affordable. That and the vermin problem."

"Vermin? Way to sell it too me."

"The vermin are not going to be a problem. They are for humans but for us aliens everything will be okay."

"Why because I have Shield?"

"Actually I forgot about that. I've already lined up an alien/mutant exterminator. It's all good."

"How is an alien or mutant exterminator any different from a human one?"

"Well for one thing, powers give them the ability to use lethal force without hurting the environment, unlike poor human exterminators who, by regulations, are forced to use that environmentally friendly crap that only irritated pests into moving elsewhere instead of killing them. Which, in my opinion, kind of defeats the purpose of being called an 'exterminator'."

"You may have a point there."

Corinna chuckled.

"So, you in?"

Annika sighed.

"I'll think about it."

"Yay!"
