I don't want a friend

Written by Nessa

Derek

Mark stood behind Derek in the elevator, whistling softly in the awkward silence, before clearing his throat.

"I really am up for a drink, you know. If you want to talk," he offered.

"What would I need to talk about?" Derek stared straight ahead.

"Meredith," Mark replied, as if it made perfect sense. "You were lucky, man. That girl jerked you around."

"You have no idea what you're talking about," Derek replied, with that little bit of bite in his tone.

"Hey, I'm just... seems like you can use a friend right about now." Mark shrugged.

Derek spun around to face him. "Meredith's mother never wanted her and her father was never man enough to hang around. She has a right to be damaged and us, together? It's a big step for her. Her best friend gets left at the altar, and all she sees now is things like this, they don't work. She panics. She wants this, she doesn't know how to have it. And you know what? It's not her fault. So don't ever talk to me about Meredith Grey again because you do not know what you are talking about." He paused. "And I don't want a friend. "
