Maybe a Lead, Maybe a Distraction

Sam & Bobby

Sam knocked on Bobby's door, remembering the last time he'd done that alone. Hopefully Bobby had pretty much forgotten by now...

"Hey Sam!" Bobby greeted with a smile, instantly letting him in.

"Bobby," Sam nodded, walking right under the large devil's trap to prove he wasn't posessed or anything, "I was surprised you called..."

"Well, haven't seen you in a while. Things still quiet on the Lilith front I take it."

"Always," Sam nodded dismally, "she's just not here. She's probably gone wherever Azazel went for those 22 years that Dad couldn't find him."

Bobby leant down to his bar fridge and pulled out a couple of beers, handing Sam one.

"Well here's to hoping it don't take that long until she surfaces again," he tipped his bottle in a toast.

Sam nodded, raising his bottle, before taking a swig.

"Look Sam, I know it's been hard and all," Bobby began as Sam nodded again, "but maybe it's time to start focusing your efforts elsewhere. There's still an awful lot of demons out there gunning for ya, and they need to be taken down. I got sightings coming out the wazoo, and that's just local."

"I know Bobby," Sam sighed, "it just feels like I'm so close, and it's killing me."

"You ain't wrong about that," Bobby agreed, "and who could blame ya? Dean was all you had left, we all knew that."

"He's not all," Sam offered Bobby a small smile.

"And I appreciate it, but you know what I mean. You two were practically twins sometimes, never see one without the other," Bobby pointed out.

"But he's gone," Sam reiterated, "and deep down I know he's not coming back. He selfishly sacrificed his soul for mine, even though I'll probably end up there anyway, and he's forcing me to live with it. But you know my reasoning, right? Because if there is even a 2% chance that I can get him back..."

"I know. But you yourself know, you shouldn't mess with that kind of stuff," Bobby warned him for what felt like the hundredth time.

"I know," Sam said thoughtfully, "...I know."
