A cover for secret slave trading, clearly

Written by Nessa and Michelle

Avery

Avery yawned, trudging up to the front door of the Hanson house. She'd decided to come downside for the weekend, in hopes of a telepathy free time.

Opening her bag, she rifled through for a moment before she realised that she'd left her house keys back on the Station.

She yawned again and raised her arm to ring the bell.

Isaac

Isaac glanced out of the window briefly before opening the door.

"No," he joke. "No sorry, whatever you're selling, we don't want any."

Avery

"See now," Avery said, grinning. "This is why Tay is my favourite."

She held out her arms.

"I, however, am your favourite. So, a hug from your favourite?"

Isaac

Isaac laughed and gave Avery a hug.

"How things? Forget your keys?" he asked.

Avery

Avery hugged him back.

"Yeah, and didn't really feel like going back to... you know... Space, to get them," she grinned.

Isaac

"Yeah, I can understand that," Isaac said.

He pulled away and held the door open for her.

Avery

Avery walked inside, carrying her bag over one shoulder.

"How's the research stuff?"

Isaac

"It's going good," Isaac replied. "Actually, it's always going. I keep adding to it. At this rate I'll never publish, heh. Well, actually I was talking to Tay the other day and I've decided to publish to the web instead. Transcribing notes. Always fun that."

He rolled his eyes.

Avery

"If only we had someone with the power of speed typing," Avery grinned.

"Well, I am here for a well earned break from telepathy. So... it's kind of your duty to feed me now."

Isaac

Isaac chuckled and lead the way into the kitchen.

"Actually the typing isn't the problem. It's making sense of my notes."

Avery

Avery followed after him and pulled out a chair, sitting down when they reached the kitchen.

"Ah, fair enough."

She rubbed her head.

"My poor brain."

Isaac

"Ga'Revali getting to you?" Isaac asked.

He sat down and sent his telekinesis to work making lunch for them both.

Avery

"Yeah," Avery replied, leaning against the back of the chair.

"I swear, Tanya is a slave driver."

Isaac

Isaac chuckled.

"Ahh, I see," he said. "Works you that hard, huh?"

Avery

"Yes!" Avery exclaimed.

"She gives off this vibe of being all kind and wise, but really, she's a slave driver. I swear, she's selling us kids off to... to work in a... telepathic sweat shop!"

Isaac

Isaac laughed.

"What do you supposed kids make in a telepathic sweat shop?"

Avery

"Um... telepathic sweaters?" Avery suggested.

She nodded.

Isaac

"I wonder what telepathic sweaters look like, or if they're invisible?" Isaac considered. "Now there's an intriguing idea."

Avery

"It would probably depend on the strength of the telepath," Avery said after a moment thinking about it.

"Because I think I could probably show you my telepathic energy, and I could probably weave it into a shape for you. And as for what it looks like, everyone's is different. Mine's sorta a gold colour."

Isaac

"Really?" Isaac inquired, his interest peeked. "Interesting. Is that normal for a high level telepath, or just you?"

Avery

"I think it's just me," Avery said. "I mean, I haven't tried showing anyone before, but I think I could probably do it."

She paused.

"Do you want me to try?"

Isaac

"If you want," Isaac replied. "I can't deny I'm curious, but then I'm also researching powers so yeah..."

He grinned at her as he finished preparing lunch and set the plates in front of them.

Avery

"And another slave driver!"

Avery grinned and then nodded.

"Alright, but food first, Ikers."

Isaac

Isaac looked hurt.

"Hey," he defended. "I said 'if you want', which is generally intended to grant you the choice."

Avery

"It's ok I was kidding," Avery said, holding her hands up.

"I'm kinda curious to see if it would work."

Isaac

Isaac nodded.

"Fair enough," he smiled.

And he picked up his sandwich and bit into it.

Avery

Avery followed suit and started to eat her lunch.

After they were done, she lifted her plate up and stood from her seat, heading for the sink.

Isaac

Isaac telekinetically followed suit.

"There are some who say that telekinesis breeds laziness... they have no idea," Isaac grinned.

Avery

Avery grinned.

"Well, there are some that say telepathy breeds cheating. Which... ok, I have done before. But it was important and I really didn't know the answer."

Isaac

Isaac laughed.

"All in a good cause?" he teased.

Avery

"Absolutely," Avery replied, grinning.

She lead the way into the living room.

"Did you want to take notes or anything?"

Isaac

"Yeah, sure," Isaac replied. "Be right back."

He trotted downstairs and grabbed a notepad and pen from his bedroom, then met Avery back in the lounge room.

"Ready whenever you are."

Avery

Avery nodded and took a deep breath.

"Ok, here goes."

She closed her eyes for a long moment, focusing, and when she opened them again, they were bright gold. She let her energy flow out in front of her.

Isaac

Isaac stared. That must be the gold she was talking about - but he certainly hadn't expected her eyes to change colour too!

His pen picked itself up and began running across the page, writing down the commentary that was Isaac's thoughts at that time.

Avery

Avery let the energy swirl around itself, almost playfully dancing in the air.

"Ok... can you see it?"

Isaac

Isaac saw a glittering gold effect whirling around inbetween them and nodded slowly.

"Yes," he said very, very quietly.

Avery

"Well, that's just... nifty."

Avery lifted her arm and let the energy circle around it, forming a bracelet of sorts.

"Ok, you wanted a sweater?"

Isaac

Isaac was so fascinated by what he saw, it took him a minute to register the question.

"Oh, umm, sure," he replied, paused and continued: "I believe the sweater was your suggestion."

Avery

"Sho' thang."

Avery tilted her head slightly and begain to weave the sweater together (figuratively). They strands of telepathic energy resembled spiderwebs while they knit themselves together.

Isaac

Isaac's pen continued to write away, its movement over the notepad a blur. When the had spoken of this in the kitchen, Isaac clearly hadn't really considered what it actually meant.

Avery

Avery pulled the last of it together, breathing a little harder than she had been a second ago.

"Sweater."

Isaac

And floating in the air before him was a golden sweater that even looked tangible.

"Wow."

It was all Isaac could think of to say.

Avery

Avery smiled slightly, puffing with the effort of making it and holding it there.

"Yeah, it is pretty cool the first time you see the energy."

Isaac

"To put it mildly!" Isaac exclaimed.

His eyes flickered to Avery and frowned.

"You okay?"

Avery

"Yeah, it just takes a bit of effort to hold it there when it's not functional."

Avery let it unwind and swirl back inside her mind. She shook her head slightly and closed her eyes, and when she reopened them, they'd returned to her natural colour.

"So, am I officially the coolest Hanson?"

Isaac

"Absolutely," Isaac replied, nodding vigourously. "Do your eyes always change colour when you use your power, or just when you do major stuff? Or don't you know?"

Avery

"My eyes change colour?" Avery asked, looking over at him.

"Really? What colour?"

Isaac

"Oh, you didn't know?" Isaac asked. "They turn gold - same colour as your sweater."

He shook his head as the next thought occured to him:

"I suppose unless someone else told you, you don't exactly use your telepathy while looking in the mirror huh?"

Avery

"Oh, that's pretty cool."

Avery grinned slightly.

"Nah, usually when I'm doing something big with my telepathy I go to the Gardens. I like feeling like I'm outside, if that makes sense. Makes everything seem so much calmer."

Isaac

Isaac nodded.

"Yeah, that makes sense," he said. "Although why you would want to be outside of the sapce station..."

He gave her a wink.

Avery

"You knob."

Avery smiled and shook her head.

Isaac

Isaac chuckled.

"That was really cool though," he went on. "Is there a lot of stuff you can do beyond what Tanya can do? Or haven't you really gotten that far yet?"

Avery

Avery thought for a minute.

"Well, I mean there's things I have created that are functional, but I'm pretty sure that's a skill that all Masters have. My hearing range is greater, obviously. I mean, I can still hear you guys when I'm on the Station, faintly, but I can hear it."

Isaac

Isaac nodded.

"Do you mind me adding any of this stuff to what I have to publish? Or would you rather I kept it to myself for the time being?"

Some of the other rare power holders he'd spoken to were willing to 'brag' but asked Isaac to keep certain aspects quiet. He had a suprising number of 'unpublishable' notes in his database.

Avery

Avery thought for a second.

"You can include that I have a bigger hearing range, but... there's some other things that I want to keep quiet until I'm older and less likely to be kidnapped again."

Isaac

Isaac nodded.

"Yeah, I don't want that to happen again either," he agreed. "I wouldn't mention your name, but I don't think I'd have to."

Avery

"Maybe," Avery said, pausing for a moment. "Maybe just leave me out of it for a bit. Until I have more of a grip over my power and what I can achieve. I'm still not entirely sure, because there hasn't been a Grandmaster in so long."

Isaac

Isaac nodded.

"Okay," he said agreeably. "Whatever you want is fine with me."

Avery

Avery scratched the back of her head.

"Cool. Um... I might lay down for a bit, that kinda took a lot out of me."

Isaac

"Yeah, you're looking a little worn out," Isaac replied. "Going to go up to your room? Or shall I leave you in peace here?"

Avery

"I might go to my room."

Avery stood up and waved at Ike.

"I'll see you in a little bit, if you're around."

She turned and headed in the direction of her bedroom.

Isaac

"I'll be downstairs," Isaac nodded after his sister as she left.

He picked up his notepad and pen (and briefly marvelled at the number of pages), and headed back into the basement.
