Estranged

Written by Michelle

Friday

Friday knocked on the door and stood there nervously, waiting for a response.

After a minute, the door opened.

"Friday?"

"Mum," Friday said, trying to smile cheerfully. "Can I come in?"

She looked at her daughter warily, then reluctantly opened the door.

"What brings you here?"

"I wanted to see you again. We didn't exactly part on the best of terms."

Her mother didn't respond.

"I uhh... I've been going to school in the States."

Her mothr frowned.

"I thought your father was in Perth?"

"Oh, he is. I was just offered a, uhh, scholashrip at this girls school in Cleveland," Friday said.

There was no point in telling her about the whole slayer thing. If her mother couldn't handle aliens she definitely wouldn't handle vampires.

"Oh. Well. That's very good then."

There was an awkward silence.

"I'm... I'm getting married."

"Congratulations."

"Thank you. I'd... I'd really like for you to come."

"Friday..."

"It's next month," Friday went on, determindly, afraid of what her mother might say if she gave her a chance to respond. "It's a little soon - he only asked me last month. But yeah. We're planning on going travelling - so we decided to get married before we left rather than after we got back. So it's not really sort notice. Well, it is kinda, but not really."

"Friday -"

"His name is Eron," Friday went on, knowing he was babbling. "And he's -"

"Friday!" her mother exclaimed, frowning at her.

Friday went silent. Her mother sighed.

"Friday, I'm sorry, honey, but I can't do this. Please, just go."

"Mum..."

"Just, go. And please don't return here again."

"But Mum -"

"Don't make this any harder, Day."

Friday stood.

"Well," she said, determind not to cry. "Since my presene offends you so much, I'll leave. But if you ever change your mind -"

"I won't."

"You can call me here," Friday said, leaving a card on the coffee table, as if she didn't say a thing.

And on that, Friday left.
