Restless Night

Isaac

Isaac ran up the stairs. He opened the door and saw him:

The alien hunter.

Tied to a nearby chair was Myra. Her mouth was gagged and there was fear in her eyes.

"She knows what you are now alien," said the hunter.

He raised the gun faster than Isaac could react, and squeezed the trigger. His telekinesis couldn't grab the bullet in the split second before it penetrated her head.

"Myra!"

The gun was wrenched out of the hunter's hand and all five of the remaining bullets were emptied into the hunter's head with unconscious telekinesis as Isaac flung himself to Myra's side crying "No! No!"

But when he got to the chair, it was no longer Myra. It was Nikki.

Isaac shot up in bed. He was panting heavily and a cold sweat dripped down his forehead. He rolled out of bed and lurched towards the ensuite. Isaac glanced briefly in the mirror before washing his face.

Myra. He hadn't dreamed of her for months now. And this was the first time she'd turned into someone else.

He sat down on the toilet. Not because he needed to go, just because he wanted to sit down. Things had been going great with Nikki these last few weeks. It was like the revealing of Nikki's secret second career had lifted a blanket of the flames of their relationship and was now free to burn. They had been more open with each other than they had in their entire relationship. It was wonderful.

"Myra never knew until that day what I am," Isaac said softly to himself.

He bowed himself and felt tears pricking at his eyes. He felt a cold terror at the thought of going through that again.

"I have to tell her," he thought to himself, then repeated aloud: "I have to tell her."
