Angel heard footsteps in the lobby and he moved quickly, stepping out of his office.
"Sam, a word?"
Sam
Sam had just been shrugging his jacket off when he heard his name, and looked over to see Angel.
"She got the right guy," he assured with a nod, "she hsould be back soon."
Angel
"That's nice," Angel said, eyes not leaving Sam.
"But we have something else to discuss."
Sam
Sam's face instantly paled a little, thinking that Fred might have found something in his blood and told Angel about it.
He glanced over his shoulder, then made his way into Angel's office.
Angel
Angel took his seat behind his desk and gestured for Sam to sit down. He steepled his fingers and regarded Sam for a moment before speaking.
"You look nervous."
Sam
"Maybe I am," Sam admitted, sitting down.
"Has something happened?"
Angel
"You tell me," Angel said, leaning back, resting his hands on the armrests of his chair.
"Anything at all on your mind?"
Sam
Sam shook his head.
"I don't know what Wesley or Fred have told you, but we really haven't found anything yet..." one of his eyes narrowed.
Angel
"What? Oh not that."
Angel shook his head.
"I want to talk about Faith."
Sam
"Oh," Sam breathed a sigh of relief, sitting back into the chair finally.
"What about Faith?"
Angel
Angel's eyes narrowed slightly.
"She's very important to me, as I'm sure you're aware."
Sam
"Yes, very aware," Sam assured.
Angel
"And I don't want to see her get hurt, you understand me?"
Angel looked menacing.
Sam
"Good luck with that," Sam nodded, avoiding eye contact.
Angel
"By you," Angel amended.
He watched Sam.
Sam
"Same answer," Sam nodded again.
"I mean she's a sayer, there's always going to be danger around every corner."
Angel
"That's not what I mean," Angel said.
He leaned forward, his voice lowering.
"Let's ge this straight, I like you Sam. I have no problem with you dating Faith, whatsoever. But, she is... she is a big part of my life, or unlife, I guess. So if you hurt her, in any way, shape or form, I won't be held responsible for what I do to you."
Sam
"And if I kill you, it'll be in self defense," Sam said straight back.
"I'm not out to hurt Faith. I'm sure you can sense that already," he insisted, "but this is a dangerous life. And I won't always be there to save her. And what's to say that if she gets hurt while we'e on a hunt that you won't blame me for that anyway?"
Angel
Angel thought about that carefully.
"I understand that a Slayer's life expectancy is very short. Faith has actually broken records. If it's on a hunt, that's not your fault. I'm more talking about... you know, if you happen to be the one person who could make Faith cry. Don't be that guy."
Sam
Sam nodded.
"Well I don't intend to start breaking hearts now," Sam shrugged.
"Never have, and hopefully never will. If anything comes to a head, it'll be a decision for the both of us to make. And, no offense, will be no one else's business."
Angel and Faith
"That's all I wanted to say," Angel said.
"Well." Faith was leaning against the doors of Angel's office. "This looks sinister."
"Nothing sinister at all," Angel told her. "Just a friendly chat. Right, Sam?"
Sam
"Right," Sam agreed, standing from the chair and going to greet Faith.
"Everything to plan I take it?"
Faith and Angel
"Mmmhmmm," Faith said, reaching up to kiss Sam. "All went swimmingly. Well, not for him, I guess."
Angel almost smiled.
Sam
Sam ran his fingers through Faith's hair.
"Then let's go get you cleaned up," he suggested.
Faith and Angel
Faith nodded and rested against Sam as they left Angel's office.
"So really, what was all that about?" she asked him.
Angel watched after them thoughtfully. He was pretty content that Faith would be well looked after.
Although, Sam was a little too tall.
