Coming to a head

Written by Nessa and AiMsTeR

Faith

Faith yawned, turning her key in the lock. She opened the door of the motel room and walked in, closing it gently behind her, unsure if Sam was awake. Or even there.

She tossed her keys, phone and knife on the bed, then grabbed a fresh pair of clothes and started for the bathroom.

Sam

Sam heard Faith come in, but didn't bother going to greet her. It was kind've a wonder why they still shared the same room these days, things had been getting heated between them.

And not in a good way. Not that that's what he wanted, he was still way too broody for a relationship. Not that he was thinking of a relationship right now, with the whole Lilith-hunt and everything. And why would Faith be thinking of a relationship anyway? And for that matte, why Faith? She'd just as soon dump him and go get herself killed. That seemed to be the way things ran in her world.

The mirror suddenly smashed and he cursed himself, knowing they'd have to pay for that. He looked around, trying to find if a flying object had done it.

Faith

Noting that the room was empty, Faith assumed that Sam wasn't there.

Until she heard the smash from the bathroom.

Not pausing to think about the consequences if Sam was naked - and with all the tension flying between them over the last week, this would put the final nail in the "let's try and at least be friends" coffin - Faith opened the bathroom door.

And stared slightly.

Sam

Sam barely glanced up at the door as he bent to start picking up the pieces of glass.

"What?"

Faith

"Nothing, wasn't aware that I was interrupting."

Faith turned around to leave him alone.

Sam

"Yet somehow you can sense everything else," Sam muttered under his breath.

He reachd over for the small bathroom bin and began throwing the glass in.

Faith

"And this is what I get for hanging with demons," Faith threw out, heading back to her bed to pack her stuff up.

Yeah, she was so going back to LA.

Sam

"What?" Sam exclaimed.

He stood and walked to the bathroom door.

"What demons? Where did that come from?" he demanded.

Faith

Faith didn't even look up, just kept throwing things into her bag.

"Oh, just out of the blue," she replied sarcastically. "So, you're not one then?"

Sam

"No, I'm not," Sam folded his arms across his chest haughtily.

"What on Earth would make you think that?"

Faith

"Little birdy told me. Or, demon rather."

Faith shrugged, unplugging her laptop.

"But that's cool, more lies. I can deal with that."

Sam

"Faith," Sam scowled, "I'm not a demon. You're gonna believe that dark eyes skank over me?

Faith

Faith looked up at him with a raised eyebrow.

"Hey! That was still partly me, you dick! And yeah, it's not just what the demon told me."

She shook her head slightly.

"I can sense demons, you know. So stop lying already. Or keep lying. Whatever. Do what you have to."

Sam

"I didn't mean you, you know I meant the demon," Sam scorned.

"And I'm not lying to you. I am human. I was just... cursed. Which is really none of your business anyway. But hey, if you want to tal about lies? Let's talk about your 'patrolling'."

Faith

"Hey, I am straight up with you, I don't omit certain bits of information that might, oh I don't know, somehow end with someone dying," Faith shot back.

She straightened up, arms folded across her chest.

Sam

"I never lied to you," Sam pointed out.

"I just didn't tell you everything. And you weren't patrolling, not everytime at least. Who were you with?"

Faith

"So, you followed me? Good to see the trust thing is so strong between us. Even though really, I haven't given you a real reason not to trust me, when you, hell, I have no reason to trust you at all."

Faith looked away from him for a moment.

"Just someone I knew once, is all. No one you know, and no one you need to know."

Sam

"I followed you because I was worried. Not that I should be, seeing as you're the all-powerful Chosen One," Sam scoffed.

"Nevermind. From now on I'll mind my business and we'll never have to se each other again. Except, you know, every time we see each other at Wolfram and Hart. Which will probably be often."

Faith

"Fine," Faith snapped. "You want to know who I was with? I was with my father."

She paused.

"Up until last week, I didn't think I still had a father. So there, here I am, all with the honesty."

Sam

Sam hesitated, then nodded.

"Well you're not an orphan, congratulations," he shrugged.

"Nice of him to stop by over the past twenty years."

Faith

"Gee, thanks."

Faith rolled her eyes, and turned back to her packing.

"Awesome. I'm outta here. So you can keep whatever else you need to keep from me now. Because I officially don't care."

Sam

"I'm just saying that the guy who gave you life isn't necessarily your father. But go ahead. Run off and be a daddy's girl," Sam shook his head and turned back into the bathroom.

Faith

"I didn't expect you to get it," Faith replied, picking up her bag. "And that's not what I'm doing, jackass! I just need to be somewhere other than with you, because who knows what else you're keeping from me. First the Dean thing, now this."

Sam

"Now what?" Sam demanded.

The kettle suddenly flew from its position in the kitchen area, across the room, and hit the window (thankfully not breaking it).

Sam instinctively ducked, eyes widening when he realised what had happened.

"Either we have a poltergeist..."

Faith

"Now that," Faith said, pointing.

"Well, this is a nice little death trap, isn't it?"

Sam

"Faith..." Sam stood up again.

"Look, I don't know exactly what's happening. But I really am not a demon. I just have... demon-like abilities. Almost like yours, for example. And I've never discriminated you for them, so why should you for me? I didn't tell you Dean was dead, I know and I'm sorry, but I was still coming to terms with it myself back then. It had only just happened for crying out loud!"

Faith

"Is that what you think?" Faith said, her voice softer, almost gentler.

"I'm not discriminating you for them. Sam, the most important person in my life is a vampire. I don't care that you have those abilities, I really don't. I just... it's nothing. It doesn't matter. It's ok you didn't tell me about them, about Dean, anything."

Sam

"Only it kinda does," Sam corrected.

"Because otherwise we wouldn't be arguing like this. And actually, that's probably a lie."

Sam looked to the ceiling for a moment.

"I know this Lilith thing is kind've getting out of hand. I'm sorry for that too. Vengence is a very... crazy thing."

Faith

Faith almost laughed.

"Boy, do I know that."

She rubbed her cheek.

"Just... don't fall so deep that I can't come get you, ok?"

Sam

"I'm trying," Sam replied honestly.

"But I lost the safety net I had in January."

Faith

Faith closed the distance between them and put her hand on Sam's arm.

"Sam, I know about vengeance and everything that goes along with it. I spent the better part of my life living like that... so... let me be your net."

Sam

"Would you kill me if I turned evil?" Sam asked her seriously.

Faith

Faith smiled wryly.

"Yeah. It's what I do."

Sam

"Awesome," Sam nodded.

"So this leaves us... where?" he frowned, confused.

Faith

Faith grinned cheekily.

"Well..."

Sam

Sam grabbed her at the waist, and pulled her forward to kiss her.

Faith

Faith wrapped her arms around Sam's neck and kissed him.

"I'm still kinda mad at you, though."

Sam

"Oh who cares?" Sam mused.

He leant in and kissed her again, backing over to the nearest bed.

Faith

Faith laughed slightly and kissed him back, hitching herself up against him and pushing him down onto the bed at the same time.

Sam

Sam let himself fall, before struggling a little to unbutton his shirt and get it off.

"Why does this feel like a long time coming?" he asked mid way through.

Faith

"Because it has?" Faith suggested.

She grinned and pulled her shirt over her head, before leaning down and kissing him again.

"December?"

Sam

"Yeah but back then you were... ew," Sam pulled a face, immediately trying to erase that thought.

Faith

Faith laughed. "I was... Dean's?"

Sam

"...Yeah," Sam admitted.

"But let's not," he stopped to kiss her, reaching for hs belt, "think about that..."

Faith

Faith reached down to help him with his pants.

"Good plan."
