Liam woke with a start, heart pounding in his chest. He sat up, wiping the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand.
"Just a dream."
He groped beside him for his glasses, and slid them on, breathing heavily.
A movement from the window caught his eye and he turned his attention to it.
"It's just the trees. She's not here."
Still, was that the scent of roses in the air?
Liam sat absolutely still, trembling from a mix of the cold and from fear.
"Tru is safe," he told himself. "She's in another dimension. Chloe can't find her there."
And yet, he wasn't entirely convinced.
