This is too normal for me

Faith

Faith took a deep breath, wondering for the umpteenth time if she should actually go through with this.

"I can knock. That's easy. Ok. Knock."

She raised her fist and knocked softly on the door, half hoping that they wouldn't hear it and she could scarper, but before she even got the chance, the door opened.

"You must be Faith," the woman said, smiling brightly. "I'm Susan. Come in."

"Thanks," Faith replied uncertainly, but followed her inside. She looked around. "You have a nice place."

"Oh thank you. Come, through here," Susan told her, leading the way out to the back patio. "George, honey?"

George looked up and smiled warmly. He stood and closed the distance between himself and his daughter. "Hi."

Faith made no move to hug him, she simply nodded and smiled back. "Hi."

Susan noted the awkwardness between them and tried to break the silence. "You haven't met our boys yet, I'll go get them."

"Please, sit," George said, gesturing.

"Ok," Faith replied. She sat down and he took the seat across from her. "So, um... your boys. How old are they?"

"Just turned 18," George told her. "Twins. Although, not identical. Jensen, he's 4 minutes older, and Jared."

She nodded. "Do they... um... know about me?"

"Yes," he replied honestly. "Not much about you, but then, I hardly know much about you."

They were interrrupted - or perhaps saved - from a more awkward conversation by Susan returning with two boys, one taller than the other, but both with striking blue eyes.

"Faith, I'd like you to meet our sons. This is Jensen," Susan said, indicating to the shorter one. "And this is Jared."

Faith nodded, smiling slightly. "Hey."

"Hey," the boys said in unison.

"Now sit sit," Susan fussed. "I'll get the lemonade."

Faith wondered again what she had just walked into. This was all... so normal. Too normal.

"So we're heading in, it's all five by five and suddenly - "

"Wait," Faith interrupted. "Sorry, um... did I..."

"Did you?" George looked at her strangely.

"It's just... the five by five thing. Did I get that from you?"

"Do you say it?" He looked pleased.

"Yeah, I never really remembered where I picked it up. Mom had another boyfriend who was military and he said it too, so I just assumed it was from him, but thinking back, I know I said it earlier than that," Faith said.

George grinned. "Yeah, I used to say it to you, when you were little."

"Oh. Cool."

Well, she was certainly finding out a lot about herself.
