Double Date

Written by Michelle

Mia, Roberto, Elata and Henry

"Oh wow," Elata said, bouncing up and down in her seat. "I can't believe we're going to hang out with Princess Mia!"

"Shh!" Roberto frowned at her. "You'll get people's attention if you keep saying that. Just call her Mia and her power will take power the rest."

"I still find it incredible that you two managed to go on a date for four hours and not get caught," Henry said.

"It wasn't a date," Roberto insisted.

"Yeah it was."

"I thought you could only tell the truth."

"This is true," Henry said grinning at him. "And oddly enough every time you deny it was a date my power scream 'lie' to me."

Roberto opened his mouth to reply, then frown, shut him mouth and shook his head.

"Wasn't a date," he muttered.

"There she is!" Elata exclaimed.

"Put up a neon sign, why don't you?" Roberto said.

Elata poked her tounge out at him as Mia joined their table.

"Hey," Mia said. "Sorry I'm a bit late."

"That's okay," Roberto replied. "Monkey suits here again?"

"Yeah. That's why I was late."

"Ahh," Roberto nodded. "Hey maybe you can explain to Henry here that we didn't go on a date last month."

"Oh, okay. We didn't go on a date last month."

Henry grinned at Elata.

"She's lying too."

Elata giggled.

"Pr- Mia and Roberto sitting in a tree..."

"Shush you," Mia said, and gave Henry a curious look. "So how does that power of yours work then? I mean, as far as I'm concerned Roberto and I was just hanging out."

"Ahh," Henry said, tapping the side of his nose. "That might be the official story, but both of you felt that it was really a date."

"Interesting. So what do I think this outing is?" Mia asked.

Henry shrugged.

"You tell me."

"We're just hanging out."

"Double date," Henry said immediately, then looked stunned.

"Double date?" Elata repeated. "But that would mean..."

She beamed at Henry and wrapped her arms around him.

"Darling!"

"Okay, you can get off me now."

Elata giggled, Mia shrugged but had an amused expression on her face.

"Okay, so now that that's settled..." Henry said.

"Right, have you guys ordered anything yet?"

"Just drinks," Roberto replied.

"Okay, well, I guess I should order me one next time the waiter shows up."

"They're usually pretty good at noticing extra people, and we did say we were expecting someone else," Roberto told her.

Mia considered.

"Well, my obscurity usually prevents people from noticing me, but if they're expecting a fourth person someone might."

Elata sighed happily.

"I'm on a double date with mutants," she said merrily. "Why can't I be a mutant too?"

"Genetics," Mia replied. "Sorry, honey."

"Stupid genetics."

Mia grinned. Elata could certainly get on your nerves, but it was a nice change to have someone so enthusiastic about mutants.

The four enjoyed a nice lunch together. At one point, Elata got up and headed to the bathroom. Once she was out of earshot, Henry leaned forward.

"Uhh, could you guys do me a favour?"

"Yeah, sure," Mia replied.

"Okay, as you may have figured out, I really like Elata."

"It was a little hard to miss."

"Yeah, well, you may noticed she a little mutant obsessed, so right now whenever she says anything affectionate towards me she doesn't really mean it."

"Oh, I see," Mia frowned. "I'm sorry."

Henry shrugged.

"My point is that, I'd rather you guys didn't tell her how I feel. If we end up together I want it to be because she loves me for me, and not because I'm a mutant who's interested in her."

"Of course," Mia nodded. "My lips are sealed."

"Mine too," Roberto agreed.

"Thank you."

The lunch ended pleasantly, and after paying for the meal the four headed out.

"C'mon," Elata giggled to Henry. "Let's leave the lovebirds alone to say their own goodbyes."

Henry smiled and the two waved good bye to Mia and Roberto.

"The car will be around in a minute to pick me up," Mia said.

"Yeah," Roberto replied. "Look, umm... about what Henry said..."

Mia shrugged.

"I really like you, Roberto, and I'd like to keep seeing you... and possibly go out on official dates," she said. "But I... as you may have noticed I'm a little high profile. You date me, you get media attention too. So, yeah."

"Yeah, I realise that," Roberto nodded.

"So, right now I think I'l like to hang out unofficially, okay?" Mia said. "I'm going to leave the dating thing up to you. Your life is going to be more effected by this than mine, so it's completely up to you if you want to pursue a... a romantic relationship with me."

"Well, thank you," Roberto replied seriously. "I think... I think I would like to know you a little better first."

"Okay. Talk to you online tonight?"

"Absolutely."

"See you then."
